Not too much new news in the Sunday papers today on the Newcastle sale.
Mike, Barry and Derek at the game yesterday
Alan Oliver in the People says that Mike will make a decision on the sale this Friday and that David O’Leary is still a potential new manager, along with Steve Coppell and Alan Curbishley.
We’d like to see Steve Coppell manage the side if it’s not to be Alan Shearer.
Alan Oliver says that two consortia are still left but that neither of them is the Barry Moat consortia, which seems a bit strange.
We have to say we like the story in the Sunday Sun today, that says Barry Moat will join the Newcastle board while Mike keeps the club, but that Alan Shearer will come in as manager. That would be a good compromise, but probably wishful thinking from the local Sunday newspaper. It would be very interesting if there is any truth in that.
The News of The World is reporting that Mike Ashley is ready to launch a further cut of the Newcastle playing staff, and we expect that’s because the wage bill is still around £50M, which is at least £10M too much still.
The NOTW is reporting that Newcastle still want to a further £20M reduction in the wage bill, and that will mean more big-name departures.
Here’s how we have the transfers and wage bill, assuming Duff goes to Fulham.
Player Fee Wages Wages
£M £K/week £M/year
Owen 0 110 5.7
Viduka 0 70 3.6
Cacapa 0 50 2.6
Edgar 1 10 0.5
Bassong 8 7 0.4
Duff 4 65 3.4
Beye 3 55 2.9
Lovenkrands 0 50 2.6
Martins 9 70 3.6
Totals 25 487 25.3
New Wage Bill
(74-25.3) = £48.7M per year
Argentine defender Fabricio Coloccini is being lined up for a move to Galatasaray or with Serie A side Palermo, depending on who you want to believe.
West Ham and Wolves have targeted 20-year-old striker Andy Carroll, with Andy on offer at only £2.5M.
Attacker Jonas Gutierrez could move to Greece or Portsmouth, depending again on what news you believe.
And we had said a couple of days ago we should sign Peter Lovenkrands, because he would be good up front and gives us a different option from Carroll, Ameobi and Ranger, and it appears that Newcastle have recently held talks with him about a possible return. That’s good news if true.
The Danish striker scored three times after joining in January but was not offered a permanent deal when the season ended, which was a big surprise to us.
The players we don’t want to lose this season are Steven Taylor, Andy Carroll, Shola Ameobi Alan Smith, Danny Guthrie, Tim Krul, Steve Harper, Kevin Nolan, Ryan Taylor, Jose Enrique, Nicky Butt and all our talented youngsters.
And we need to bring in a left back, a couple of center backs, two wingers and an experienced striker.
Let’s hope all this gets sorted out while we continue to win games. 😀

Comment #42magpie6699 , are you mental? Dale Winton is a poacher, loves to come inside the defender – would not partner LH well.
Komfort, aye, good shout on Boy George. Bit of a mercenary though. He comes and goes.
…loving would be easy if his colours were like my dreams. Black.

Comment #44…come to think of it, an Evans & Winton/Henry partnership could absolutely decimate the CCC defences. Why didn’t I think of that before

Comment #45Komfort, have you ever considered the endless possibilities of utter devastation when served up by a certain Arthur Askey, and Orson Welles’s cousin?
