Jose Enrique has looked in good form this seaosn, and today he has talked about wanting to keep Jonas Gutierrez on Tyneside, and also increasing the size of the Newcastle squad.
Jose Enrique – a player we want to stay at Newcastle
Enrique told the Evening Chronicle today:
“When Jonas plays I understand very well how to play with him. I want him to stay because he is very good for the team.”
“I play on the left like him and we play similar football.” “He has played in Spain so he understands my game.”
“The movement is similar for us. Duff is a very good player, but I understand better with Jonas.”
But Enrique is getting rather concerned that Newcatsle may again be left with a too small squad once the transfer window closes on September 1st.
Newcastle have signed Manchester United’s right-back Danny Simpson on loan, and it looks like we’ll be able to sign Sol Campbell, if we can agree a satisfactory wage deal.
Enrique, whose great left wing cross in the first half enabled Shola Ameobi to score the first of his 3 goals, wants to see more players brought in before the month is up, and the transfer window closes shut.
Jose continued:
“Some players may leave again.” “It’s not my problem, it’s a problem for the club. I will concentrate on the team. We need players because too many important players have left.”
“There are some good players but only 13 or 14. We have good players here and we can go back to the Premier League.”
“But I think we need more players here.” “If we do that we’ll be back up in the Premier League.” “The fans here are unbelievable.”
“I understand the fans are angry with the club and angry with the president because it’s not a good situation.” “But when we play we try to make it better for the fans.”
“It’s not a problem we can affect away from the pitch but we can on it. It’s normal for us to do our jobs.”
We’d like to see Jose stay on Tyneside, as not only is he an improving player, but he is a fighter, and a player the fans are taking to n Tyneside.
If other players had played with the same heart and intensity as Jose did last season, we wouldn’t be in the Championship now.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3Jose and Guiterez do play very well. 90% of chances came from their side. We can sell either of them as we dont have any LB or true wingers if duff leaves. Not to mention the fact they both are the quickest too players in the team. we will severely lack pace if they left.

Comment #8I still think Jonas might come good this season but then I think he wants to move on. For me its simple. Just keep players who want to play for Newcastle and push for promotion. If we have 11 players every game playing for us to get promoted then I have no doubt we will get promoted. As we have some players with good skills and heart.
Com’on lads give us happy moments back. get us win on WED.
Com’on Mike …move on ….give us a break from this gloomy period and sell to new owner.

Comment #12Jose is one of our top 3 performers so far, has always had a great attitude too.I remember him livid and mad when his thigh pulld up against pompey at SJP.he clearly wantd to fight on for the team. He and R.Taylor are our best crossers of the ball.

Comment #13Why are we not offloading Geremi (free), Xisco (negligible amount) and Butt (1/2 mill)? This would vastly reduce the wage bill as all 3 are overpaid, has been’s or in Xisco’s case, never was. Once these 3 go, sell no more players and get a few loanee’s in, along with a few championship quality players. In my opinion, this would leave us with a squad capable of pushing for the play off places at the very least.

Comment #17101% agreed! Don’t sell Jonas or Taylor. And don’t bring in yesterday’s injury prone planks just because they are cheap. We need flair, we need depth, we do not need mediocrity and freeloaders…

Comment #20I hope the owner will gave Jonas a chance to show what he can do.
There’s something in him that just need some time to get used to. Not all players adapt fast. Esp in a club where demands on induvl are high to excel right away.
When language was also a problem. Time must be given to learn and relax and true potential will show.
Like Real.M- Players going in was excellence players or call them “branded players” from all over the world. But some just can’t get the ball rolling in a season time.
But Real.M is different they are giants team that must win medal or someone will have to be the scapegoat. Even win medal there might is be not enough, just ask the England manager.
So players like Jonas should be given chances and let them correct their mistake, Jonas wante to play well for us so much.
Eg. When he didnt cross well or miss a chance. The T.V capture him with his body languge show he was very disappointed with himself.
Give him a chance. Shearer also at 1st find him good. But with 8 games shearer expect Jonas to play even better which is not possible.
Compair to Smith he is an english lad. Born and bred in England. They will adpt faster. (But he still play like shit those past months)
i believe Jonas will improve.

Comment #21They do combine well down the left, but as everyone’s noticed, Jonas doesn’t supply good final balls enough and his passing is very poor.
He runs down to the end line, skinning everyone and then… nothing comes of it. That’s what’s so disappointing.
Isn’t there someone who can help him reform his passing?
Or is it that nobody’s making the runs through the left channel to pick up passes from him in the box?

Comment #24davis_toons: You are dead right, I’m pleased I’m not the only one banging the drum for Jonas. Let’s start a keep flair on Tyneside campaign? Where would any of the great teams of yore be without flair players? Jimmy Smith, Tony Green, David Ginola, Tino, Len Shackleton (OK, mainly red ones only because we were daft enough to sell him for £20K), Jackie Milburn, Bobby Mitchell, Gazza, Waddler are only some who wore the stripes. Jonas is not there yet, but he could be!! There’s nobody else in this squad can do it.

Comment #26Jinky and Davis – I agree with what your saying about flair players, every team needs at least 1. But with Ginola, Tino, Robert etc they already had the final ball and the skill, they only needed to work on tracking back etc. How long do we wait for Jonas to improve his final ball/passing? Remember he’s already had 1 full season. Maybe it would be better to buy someone who has the skill and final ball but needs to work on other things?

Comment #29Aye its needed all over the pitch! Ryan Taylor is a good footballer but like most of our players is struggling with confidence. There was a glimmer of hope that it was coming back on Saturday, Colo even looked decent again. When we signed Colo everyone was praising how good he was now everyone hates him. You dont play for Depo and Ac plus Argentina if ya crap. Confidence is the key.

Comment #30Just play the right-footed right-winger Jonas Gutierrez on the right wing, and watch the crosses come in, from his right foot. I’ve heard it’s pretty difficult swinging crosses in from the left wing with your right foot. Tough sh1t if Enrique likes to play with him, he can do that after the game.

Comment #31G69–I agree, Colo looked decent on Saturday and I though he started last season really well, actually, but do you agree he dropped off at the end of last season?
Maybe you’re right about confidence–it explains a lot.
If Jonas would just start making his runs more diagonal instead of to the end line and then SHOOTING, we might start singing his praises again too.
Shame about Duff though. I think he’s one that was about to find new confidence. He’ll do well at Fulham–they played really attractive football last season.

Comment #32But Rodz–they combine very well on the left.
Somebody mentioned playing Jonas at left back and Enrique on the wing. I wonder about that. Enrique’s a decent crosser.

Comment #33FSOTC, I’d say Enrique plays better with Jonas in front of him, but Jonas suffers for it – bit of a catch 22 situation. I’m not sure Enrique’s ball distribution is good enough yet to play on the wing though. Maybe Jonas is better suited in a FB role though?
….ahh, ah divnt nah. I’d DEFINITELY play Ryan Taylor right wing though, he’s no defender.
BTW, where did Dave Jones come from all of a sudden to be 2nd favourite to be our next manager?!?!

Comment #38To me against Reading Enrique’s all round performance was the best player on the field, almost everybody thought that Shola was, judging by being best player against Reading
It’s amazing one of the first decent games he’s played since being here, suddenly he’s a star player. I do hope over the coming games he proves me wrong & time alone will tell.
The Reading is the first game that he’s ever fought for the ball.
Jonas plays well on the left wing with Enrique’s he can only get better.
