Mike Ashley flew into the Little Benton training ground today with Derek Llambias, and is said to have met with Chris Hughton and key senior players.
Chris Hughton – met with Ashley at Benton today
Lawyers for Ashley and Moat have held hours of talks in London over the past fortnight, and it seems that Barry Moat’s loan with Barclays Bank has come through, and he has today launched an official bid for the club.
Caretaker boss Chris Hughton met with Ashley this afternoon, and said after the meeting:
“The owner was here. He wished us all the best but won’t be at the game against Sheffield Wednesday. He spoke about the game last Saturday but no more than that.”
“It is frustrating because you want it resolved. Up here it is very difficult to get away from it. The job I have done has made it easier. I have a team to focus on and a group to prepare and win matches.”
“This has gelled the players together in some way. They have shown that in the first couple of games.” “We have started well and now we have to give ourselves the best chance to get out of it.”
Damien Duff today became the 10th Newcastle player to leave this summer, as he joined Fulham and it seems we need to bring in new players soon, becasue our squad is becoming very small.
“The important thing is that this club is in a position to challenge at the end of this window.”
“We have to make sure this squad is good enough to compete. We will get injuries. We have to give ourselves a fighting chance.”
“We have to make sure come the end of the transfer window we can compete.”
Mike was going to be at the game tomorrow night, so that’s a change of plans right there. Of course we can read into that that he will have sold the club by then.
We can read that into those facts, but nothing is ever certain with Ashley, as we all know, but why would he call in at the training grounds just to tell Chris that?
Your guess is as good as ours – we just want Mike Ashley to sell the club.
Comments always welcome.
