Ashley Misses Game Tomorrow Night – Speaks To Hughton

Mike Ashley flew into the Little Benton training ground today with Derek Llambias, and is said to have met with Chris Hughton and key senior players.

Chris Hughton – met with Ashley at Benton today

Lawyers for Ashley and Moat have held hours of talks in London over the past fortnight, and it seems that Barry Moat’s loan with Barclays Bank has come through, and he has today launched an official bid for the club.

Caretaker boss Chris Hughton met with Ashley this afternoon, and said after the meeting:

“The owner was here. He wished us all the best but won’t be at the game against Sheffield Wednesday. He spoke about the game last Saturday but no more than that.”

“It is frustrating because you want it resolved. Up here it is very difficult to get away from it. The job I have done has made it easier. I have a team to focus on and a group to prepare and win matches.”

“This has gelled the players together in some way. They have shown that in the first couple of games.” “We have started well and now we have to give ourselves the best chance to get out of it.”

Damien Duff today became the 10th Newcastle player to leave this summer, as he joined Fulham and it seems we need to bring in new players soon, becasue our squad is becoming very small.

Hughton continued:

“The important thing is that this club is in a position to challenge at the end of this window.”

“We have to make sure this squad is good enough to compete. We will get injuries. We have to give ourselves a fighting chance.”

“We have to make sure come the end of the transfer window we can compete.”

Mike was going to be at the game tomorrow night, so that’s a change of plans right there.   Of course we can read into that that he will have sold the club by then.

We can read that into those facts, but nothing is ever certain with Ashley, as we all know, but why would he call in at the training grounds just to tell Chris that?

Your guess is as good as ours – we just want Mike Ashley to sell the club.

Comments always welcome.

Chris has done a great job with a lack of support, it can only improve him as a coach. i hope he doesnt get let go who ever comes in. the players seem react well to him so i can only do harm by removing him.

this is the closet we’ve been to a takeover all summer, the deal hasnt stalled, three constortiums are fighting it out…there’s a 100million price tag that at least one of the three have probably met, now they must just prove their finances and plans for the future, i think by saturday we will have a new manager and owner in place..touch wood, any later is too late!!

its very interesting that ashley decided to come to the training ground today, it may well have been an unofficial goodbye…its unlikely that he would have announced he is leaving to the players and chris but perhaps he wanted to wish the players all the best before he leaves

Can’t see the sale happening for another week anyway.
He was there to sign off the Duff transfer and the new third kit madrango.

So, Ashley was at the training ground and wished Hughton and some of the players well but won’t be at the game against Sheffield Wednesday.

My reading, he’s either on the point of sale or it may fall through.. but it’s a long way to fly just to say ta ta.

    Thanks Mike and best wishes.

The ‘club source’ stuff in the Chronic Illness doesn’t ring true to me. Ashley’s time is more precious to be spent flying 300 miles just to discuss 3rd kit launches. That’s LlameArse’s job at a push. And if he needed to sign Duff’s documents… then a) they’d fly the docs to him, not the other way around, and b) it would have had to happen a long time before he flew in, ‘cos the transfer was completed this morning.

Nah – this is more smokescreen to preserve what little privacy on this Moat has left.

    Here’s hoping, eh.

    Latest from my source.

Ashley is definitely allowing Moat to buy half the club.

This is what Ashley wanted all along but Moat wanted to go alone. However, the Americans have failed to back Moat’s plan, so he has now finalised a deal with Ashley.

To be announced tomorrow. Shearer as manager and Moat and Ashley own 50% each.

    You heard it here first.!!!!

How come every ‘source’ has a different story! Sky saying its Moat vs Fans consortium with both fielding 100mil bids………….Some sources saying 2 with no Moat, some saying Moat only……nobody has a dam clue! Until its done I’m being Mr sceptical and not believing anything!

I could deal with 50% each although would be better moat 51% ashley 49%, more money in the club as long as ashley is willing to splash some of the cash he has got from player sales.

As much as I hate ashley for what hes done to this club, I think he did have good intentions but fucked up royaly and he knows this.

But as people have said, Just waiting for it to be on the yellow ticker on ssn before I believe anything.

Because we’re the toon mate! lol, sadly nowt is ever simple or easy. I like you am completly clueless as to what the crack is even with todays apparent advancements.

I want Ashley to go abroad when he finally gets rid of us. Ideally, he’d buy someone like Lazio and try to pull the same tricks with them he has with us. Results would be brilliant.

Actually, Troy – your version sounds the most plausible to me, although I’d hope it was 51/49 in favour of Moat.

That way there’s plenty of money still available (if held rather tightly), Ashley gets to step back, but he also stands a good chance of tripling the value of his remaining share, thereby making back most of what he’s lost in a couple of years.

I’d be very, very happy to see a deal like that. Bloody ecstatic, man.

    Here’s a thought:
    – Ashley sells up the whole lot
    – Looks around for somewhere to stick his dosh.
    – Thinks “Sunderland looks interesting…”

    Sorry, fantasising again.

    @Whumpie

My fault. No deal is ever done 50-50 when someone already is in ownership.

One of them has the upper hand and it will end 51-49%.

Unfortunately, my source reckons Ashley has the upper hand however the deal is complete.

To me, I had resigned myself to Ashley remaining in full control, so I’m ecstatic!!

There is money for Shearer!! However, Shearer has maintained he will buy young hungry players.

This is the reason Steven Taylor has delayed his move to Everton.

    He is now staying!!
