Damien Duff Now A Fulham Player – Official

August 18th, 2009 by Ed Harrison · 18 Comments

The official Newcastle and Fulham sites are now reporting that Damien Duff has completed his move to Fulham, for an undisclosed fee after signing a three-year deal at Craven Cottage.

Damien Duff – moves to Fulham

The Ireland winger signed for Newcastle from Chelsea in the summer of 2006, and has scored 6 times for Newcastle in 86 appearances.

His last goal came during the 1-1 draw at West Brom on the opening day of the Championship season on August 8th, and we expect the fee to have been somewhere between £4M and £5M.

We paid Chelsea £5M for the player 3 years ago.

Duff was earning more than £60K a week at Newcastle, and his departure will bring the current wage bill at the club down to £48M a year, from £74M in May.

We would have preferred to have kept Damien on Tyneside, and it could be that Alan Shearer will be the new manager before this Saturday, but too late for Damien to stay now.

We think Duff would have stayed on Tyneside if Alan had been appointed manager sooner.

We wish Damien lots of  success at Fulham, and he always did his best while on Tyneside, and was a model professional.

Comments welcome.

Can’t really blame him for leaving. I’m sure he would have stayed if the ownership saga had been properly handled.

We got a good deal for him too, so sad to see him go, but financially, it’s good for us at the moment.

If we’ve got 4-5m for Duffer that’s a steal. He’ll be injured in a month.

Excellent price, great bit of business!..

I liked Duff, but that’s an offer we couldn’t refuse!..
    …Sweet!..

Sad to see Duff go, but business is business. The fee if true is excellent for us and the reduction in the wages bill will do no harm either.
However, our problems lie with other big wage eraners who have done very little for us last season imo. Namely Butt, Geremi and Barton. Interesting that none of them are busting a gut to get out, and no-one is showing any interest in taking them on!

“I’m as loyal as they come and, whether the gaffer stays or goes, I’d love to try and get Newcastle back up into the Premier League.”
