Newcastle United’s new loan signing signing Danny Simpson and his close friend Danny Guthrie, are both included in the Newcastle squad for tomorrow’s home game with Sheffield Wednesday.
Danny Guthrie - back from hamstring problem
22 year-old Guthrie has missed the start of the season with a hamstring problem, but is now back in full training and could play against Wednesday.
Danny Simpson, who was a former team-mate of Guthrie at Manchester United’s Academy, could be ready to make his debut for Newcastle, having now trained with his new colleagues for the first time yesterday.
Interim Boss Chris Hughton told Newcastle United TV today:
“Danny Guthrie is back in training and in the squad for tomorrow.”
“He’s another option for us in midfield, but we’ll take our time and not rush him because the games are coming thick and fast these next couple of weeks.”
“Likewise with Danny Simpson, he joined in for the first time yesterday and we’re delighted to have him in.” “He’s in the squad for tomorrow but we’ll have to see what part he plays.”
We’d be surprised if Simpson starts tomorrow, but we’ll have to play the lad, since the last time we had a Manchester United player on loan we hardly played him.
That was striker Giuseppe Rossi, who is now 22 and at Spanish side Villareal.
He appeared just 11 times for the Newcastle side in late 2006, but has already played 9 times for the full Italy side with 3 goals.
We think Danny Simpson will become the regular right back on Tyneside this season, and if he does well, we should sign him full time, if he’s available.
