Newcastle Give Late Fitness Test To Joey Barton

We expect an unchanged Newcastle team tonight, from that which beat Reading 3-0 on Saturday.

Joey Barton – late fitness test

But that will depend on the result of a late fitness test being given to Joey Barton, before Chris Hughton names the side for tonight’s game against the Owls.

We would expect Joey to be declared fit, after he injured his foot in Saturday’s game, while Danny Guthrie is back in the squad and Nicky Butt should return on Saturday for our tough game at Crystal Palace.

Chris Hughton said this afternoon:

“We’re still waiting on Joey, but the good news is Danny Guthrie’s in the squad, and Nicky Butt’s not far away,”

“The only one we’re waiting on is Joey. We’ll make a late decision on him. We’re fortunate that we don’t really have any other problems.”

We expect Hughton to start new loan signing Danny Simpson on the bench, with Ryan Taylor keeping the right back spot for now,  but he may get on sometime in the second half tonight.

Newcastle need 3 points tonight – that’s the bottom line.

Yeah having Guthrie in squad is a major plus. I dont agree that we NEED three points only 3 games into a season but i obviously want 3 points!

Either way it would be an upset if we leave with anything less than 3 points. Tonight is a game where our battling qualities will be tested, wba and reading are in their own rights good passing sides but Wednesday will be making life difficult and playing a tough tackling direct football game.

    Can’t wait!!

if we are playing barton as a right winger, then i guess we should rest him and not risk his injury. guthrie is better as a winger as he has more pace and good crossing abilities

Happy to see that Guthrie is fit again. He’s a good player and I can’t wait to see him score a few more crackers this season. As for Barton… I guess we’ll see. He’s such a liability. And why are we concerned about getting Butt back? He should be used as a sub and nothing more. Let Smudger and Danny Boy play in CM. Jonas and Bartona/LuaLua on the wings.

Home game against average (to be kind) opposition. These are the games we have to win if we are gonna be up there at the end of the season. A win would allow us to grab on to the coat tails of Cardiff who will be the team to beat in the title race.

Would LOVE to see another 8-0 trouncin’. Believe if we can hand it to ’em like that again, not even Cardiff will stand in our way. Who the hell is Cardiff anyway? Have they ever been in the PL?

Cardiff may be the big boys of Wales, but we are the big boys in this league. If Michael Chopra is one of their best players, they can be that good, he never did owt up here. (Apart from that time he came on and scored with his first touch) ha

We should really get 3 points tonight. Anyone got links to watch it? Cant belive it’s not on tv! wasn’t BBC & Sky meant to have better coverage this season? they didn’t have chelsea on last night or Man U tonight? fair play arsenal vs celtic great game but who gives a shit about the rest? Between two of em they should have our game on.

The first two games were both televised live though, which is alot more than many of the teams in this league can expect. Out of the bbc’s first 4 championship games they have picked NUFC twice. The radio will have to do for me tonight 🙁 next week I might go to the Huddersfield Carling Cup game though I reckon. Will there be highlights of this game on the football league show. I like the presenters on that! Their alot more humble than smarmy Hanson, Lauro and co.

I’d like to see a couple reserve/youngsters given a chance tonight to save some legs for the weekend. Simpson to start and R.Taylor right wing, or Geremi? Don’t put Barton there and risk him, no point. We need somebody atleast who can cross a ball from open play and those 2 can do it (when they want to).

Bring Guthrie on if we need goals, if not, keep on Nolan to get his fatness (oops sorry, fitness*) up more and use his defensive style. Ranger given more than 5 minutes as well please? Lua Lua for Gutierrez, and I hope this boy isn’t just a headless chicken too.

Tbh, I really hope Xisco is given a fair amount playing time, his touch is quite good and he’s strong, although I know we can’t use all these subs!

Anyway a win would do wonders for our momentum/confidence, and I think if we have 6 wins or more after 10 games, we could really be in with a shout of promotion. Although, let’s hope if we do discover this type of confidence, we don’t slip into a “too big for championship” mindset and bugger it later on.

On a sidenote, we NEED more players bringing in!

P.S. Will be interesting to see if Campbell is attending again tonight. If so, surely, he has to be signing?
