Simpson Starts – Barton Fails Fitness Test

nufc-crestsheffield wednesday

Loan signing Danny Simpson will make his Newcastle United debut tonight, as replacement for the injured Joey Barton (foot), who failed a fitness test this afternoon.

The 22-year-old will start in the right-back berth with birthday boy Ryan Taylor, who turns 25 today, pushing up into the right-hand midfield slot. Maybe Ryan can get himself a birthday goal tonight.

Newcastle continue with a strong defense made up by Jose Enrique, Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini and they will be hoping for another good game at the back, and hopefully another clean sheet.

Saturday’s hat-trick hero Shola Ameobi is again paired with fellow Geordie boy Andy Carroll up front, while captain Alan Smith, Kevin Nolan and Jonas Gutierrez join Ryan Taylor in the middle of the park.

Danny Guthrie returns to the bench for his first appearance of the season, after recovering from his hamstring injury.

Sheff Wednesday are unchanged from the side which drew 1-1 at Peterborough United on Saturday, and former Newcastle target Francis Jeffers is on the bench.

TEAMS

Newcastle United: Steve Harper, Danny Simpson, Jose Enrique, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Ryan Taylor, Jonas Gutierrez, Alan Smith (c), Kevin Nolan, Shola Ameobi, Andy Carroll

Subs: Richard Hinds, Tommy Miller, Francis Jeffers, Etienne Esajas, Mark Beevers, Frank Simek, Richard O’Donnell

Barton did the good job at right wing against Reading, sad to see him miss the game today. Hope Simpson can produce some good form for us tonight. Between R.Taylor and Guthrie on right midfield, I don’t know who can play better.

Little nervous with Taylor in the midfield. Reminds me of last season too much.

I will be watching on my computer at work. Let’s go boys!

Well I’m glad to see our non-right back playing on the right wing. Not a defender, in my eyes, but has a good right foot, whip those crosses in to the big lads Ryan!

Can’t believe that R.Tayor is playing in midfield he is awful in that position.
Hughton should start either Lua Lua or Guthrie as they are more creative.
    Prediction 2 – 0 to the TOOOOOOOOOON

Hopefully Ryan Taylor worked on his crosses because only him and possibly Enrique can cross properly towards our big lads. Jonas is woeful at crossing so doubt he would assist tonight. But I hope I am wrong!

Guys you’ve probably all seen this on NUFC.com but just wanted to post it here to demonstrate the fickle nature of the Premier League footballer, quotes made at the time of relegation clearly held less water than Dea Liza’s bucket!

Habib Beye (who reputedly asked for a transfer request):

“I’m under contract, and I will be here next year to put this club back in the Premier League. I have played for Newcastle for two years, and I love this club.”

    Damien Duff:

“I’m as loyal as they come and, whether the gaffer stays or goes, I’d love to try and get Newcastle back up into the Premier League.”

    Obafemi Martins:

“..my aim is to stay and help get Newcastle promoted next season. I love living in Newcastle and there are few better places to live and play.

All decent players for the Toon, but ultimately all full of shit, money clearly talks and walks

    Views?

By the way. Why our games are always the latest? specially today? Here it’s already 21:41. Waiting the whole day for this. Literally the whole day.

    +
Please say a 5 second pray for the Maccabi Haifa
(the Israeli champions) that play today their game against some Austrian team for the place in the Champions League. we almost never have a team from Israel there, so that is a big honor to get there.

Ok, the game is almost starting. GO NEWCASTLE !!!!!!!

    # 5’Newcastle make a mess of a decent shooting opportunity from a free-kick. Jose Enrique scuffs his effort and Shola Ameobi can’t follow up to any effect.
