Joey Barton Doubtful For Crystal Palace Game

Joey Barton failed a fitness test before last night’s win against Sheffield Wednesday, and it looks like Joey will be doubtful for Saturday’s game at Crystal Palace.

Joey Barton – doubtful for Saturday

And if   there is any doubt about Joey for Saturday, he will not be risked as we have Nicky Butt and Danny Guthrie both fit again for the game in London.

But it looks like Hughton is confident that Joey will be fit for next Wednesday’s Carling Cup tie against Huddersfield at St. James’ Park – KO time is  7:45 pm.

Hughton talked about Barton this morning:

“Joey will be touch and go for Saturday.”

“The good news is it is very minor, it is not something that is going to keep him out for a number of weeks.”

“If he doesn’t make Saturday, I am quite sure he will be available for Wednesday’s game.”

And it looks like if Shearer is not brought in before the end of August as the new manager, Joey will be staying with Newcastle, at least through January.

We think he can do a good job in helping Newcastle push for promotion this season, because he’s still a good player.

We just have to hope he will start behaving himself.

Comments welcome.

Hope he makes it, we badly missed his passing last night. I’ve seen people write that we can get promoted with this squad but if we don’t bring in about 6 new players we have no chance of finishing in the top two. The problems of last season are still there in that we have no decent wingers and very little creativity in the middle. Another striker is essential too. We’ve been lucky so far in playing the likes of Reading and Sheff Wed at home so we’ve managed to get away with it, but we’ll face tougher teams than those and as the season goes on we’ll pick up a fair few injuries and suspensions as the games come thick and fast. As regards to last night, Enrique played very well and Shola did well for the goal. Harper gets loads of abuse on here for some bizarre reason but he made two great saves last night and looked confident throughout.

Shame about Carroll. He was linking well with Shola in a big man/ big man partnership – just the job for the CCC.

Surely Moat would have heard back from the bank by now as they said at the weekend it would only take a couple of days. He was at the game again last night. Hopefully we’ll hear something before the weekend otherwise it will drag into the last full wk of August and will seriously hamper our chances of getting any sort of player in.

Decisions need to be made now either way, sell the club or keep it so we can focus on getting the additional players that would help our promotion chances. This is obvious to everyone except Ashley it appears.

Maccas – I can’t understand the Harper bashing at all – 2 clean sheets in a row, left to do nothing for 90% of the game and then responds well when called upon (something that isn’t easy to do). I think Harper’s problem for some fans is that he isn’t Tim Krul!

mylestoon – I wouldn’t wanna break up the Jonas/Jose partnership ’cause they play well together – didn’t really do much last night because Shef just stuck 3 men on Jonas at all times!

Barton was missed last night although, had one of Taylor’s two fantastic free kicks gone in, I’d say it’d be a fairly different song we’d be singing this morning!

I don’t care how good he is – and he ain’t all that, to be honest – he’s not worth the money, the humiliation, the risk, the hassle or the damage to the club.

Get rid. Hate the man. Play Lua Lua for now, but for chrissakes get us someone else too.

Unless we sign an adequate replacement I’m afraid Barton is a necessary evil if we have any aspirations of getting promoted this season.

Really chuffed to hear that Ryan T’s free kicks and corners were good last night. We’ve needed a decent dead-baller for ages, and his throw-ins rival that freak from Stoke.

Barton doubtful… f**kin good is all I can say.

I’ve not paid the best part of £30 to watch that little t*sser f**k things up for us again – the sooner we get rid the better!!!!!
