Shola Ameobi is the man of the moment at Newcastle right now, and it will stay like that if Shola continues to bang in the goals like he’s done so magnificently these last couple of games.
Shola Ameobi – delighted at scoring another goal!
Of course Newcastle fans have had a love-hate relationship with Shola over the years, but fans are delighted that Shola has looked so good this season in the second tier in England.
However, Shola is starting to get worried that time is running out to bring new players in, and we’ll have 3 games in the next 11 days, and the Nigerian born player wants to see some new signings.
Newcastle are still in negotiations with both Sol Campbell and Peter Lovenkrands to increase the size of their squad, and both players would be very good acquisitions for the club.
Ameobi told the Evening Chronicle today:
“We haven’t got many players.” “I thought that showed. There are a lot of heavy legs.”
“There’s a lot of games, and we haven’t got many players to rotate.” “The games are coming thick and fast, and we had to dig deep now.
“We haven’t been used to playing back-to-back games like that, but we ground it out and produced the win.” “It (last night) wasn’t a performance like Saturday – it was a different type of game.”
“We had to grind it out, and we’re delighted to have come out with another win.”
And Shola talked about his 4th goal in 2 games last night, that had the huge crowd of close to 44,000 erupting after just 15 minutes, as Shola took his chance beautifully:
“With a lot of goals, you can catch the keeper out by taking it early, and I think that was the case.”
“There wasn’t that much space to squeeze through, but thankfully it slipped by him.”
“For strikers, goals breed confidence. That’s nothing new.” “I’m obviously delighted to have contributed.”
“I’ve got a lot of confidence and, hopefully, I can ride it and help us win as many games as possible.”
We hope Shola can continue on his goals streak, and there’s no reason why the Geordie lad cannot hit 20 goals this season.
And if he contributes to getting Newcastle promoted, that would be just great for the club and for Shola.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #4i think if we get campbell and lovenkrands that will make us a lot stronger squad. still think we need another lb although kadar can play there. if jonas leaves we will also need to replace him, cant see it happening though.

Comment #10just looking at the Attendances for the championship, you have got to give credit to derby selling an average of 98.2 % of there capacity which is 33597,
while we are selling an average of 77.1% but obviously we have a bigger stadium,

Comment #18I think it’s important to give the young players some more experience, though a little at a time. It will also start to make the squad feel less small if the ‘kids’ have blended in with the first team more.
Against Crystal Palace – partly to rest some players – I’d personally go for:
Harper
Simpson
Enrique
Taylor. S
Kadar
Nolan
Smith
Lua Lua
Taylor. R
Amoebi
Xisco (but promise Ranger a good 30 mins as a sub later in the game)

Comment #19Great goal by Shola last night, not sure about the squad, it’s pretty thin but there are a few good young ones still to feature, Ranger, Kadar, Lua Lua and maybe this Vukic if he’s as good as everybody says….would be quite happy to swap Colo for Campbell and Beckford and give the division a good go…..
Anybody else pleased there will be no International breaks this year..Woo Hoo!!!!

Comment #23Just wanted to repeat a comment from an earlier thread. Just because I wanted too!!
Funny old life innit. Fact is, is that if Sicknote was still with us then Shola possibly wouldn’t have started any of the games. Just goes to show (philisophical moment coming) that in football and in life you have to take your chances when they appear. You really have to admire the tenacity he has shown in staying with the club he so obviously loves despite the criticism from so many of us, me included (although I have defended him at times as well) and the efforts to sell him by the club. He really deserves some success, just hope it continues.

Comment #33I think i have to go against the flow here as i thought as many people also did that the only conceivable positive of getting relegated was the chance to start afresh and clear the deadwood. It seems to me the only players we wanted rid of are Cacapa and Owen.
I’m not too sure where i stand on the issue but surely it would be better to spend a few seasons in the championship rebuilding than getting promoted first time and still have:
Coloccini
Jonas
Smith
Butt
Nolan
R Taylor
Maybe Xisco
And i’m sorry to say maybe even get rid of Ameobi at some point, we need players with futures, this league might be a breeze for some of them but then what when we get promoted? They have all shown they can’t cut it in the prem which is where we want to be. We need to set up a scouting system and get the best youth players we can, sure Beckford may do a job for us in this league, but we need to find the Mattocks, Beevers and Naughtons that have real potential to develop.
The way i see it the squad we have with a couple of additions will get us promoted. However we have lost our best players and we would get relegated straight back. And i don’t want to become a bloody yoyo club.

Comment #38Satboyslim – the longer we stay in the Championship the more top players we will lose, as they won’t be loyal for more than one season. To have the best chance of staying in the Prem we need to get promoted this season
