Barry Moat Has Less Than 4 Hours To Buy Newcastle

Helen Power of the Times is reporting that Mike Ashley has set a 5:00 pm deadline today for the Newcastle club to be sold.

So if that’s correct, at least Mike is keeping to his word that today is D-day and he will decide whether the club will be sold.

5pm local time is less than four hours away at the time of writing, so we would expect an announcement on the official site shortly after that time.

The report suggests that Barry Moat is the only player, and he will be given another 4 hours to buy the club.

Derek LLambias said yesterday that Moat was there or thereabouts (whatever that means) in relation to meeting Mike’s price of £100M, so we have to hope (and pray) he can get the deal completed.

We hate to think about Ashley keeping the club another year, because every time we do we have to rush to the bathroom to vomit.

Yes, it’s really that bad.

Sources close to Ashley say he has still not received any official word from Barry Moat that Barclays bank, Newcastle’s lender, has approved the sale of the club for the Moat consortium.

The Times is suggesting the bank must agree to roll over the £40M overdraft to Moat’s consortium, before he can buy the club.

Let’s hope they agree to do that, otherwise we are going to be very disappointed in Barclays, that’s for sure.

You talk about going down to the wire – fingers and toes are crossed for a good outcome on this one.

It’s so important for the future of the Tyneside club.

Comments welcome.

Surely they could set an internal deadline at 5pm, with the resultant decision announced on Monday? I know we’re not on the Stock Exchange now but presumably certain tax officials have to be informed of the sale of a company during work hours for it to be entirely official?

    Just a thought.

And as I said all along, there was never any other bidders but Moat.

If you want fan input to the club in the future you may have to dig deep to support it, and this may mean doing something similar to Barcelona, where membership costs £100 per year, and then you purchase season tickets on top of that. Because they have a huge fan base season tickets for adults range from less than £100 up to something like £600. I would think Newcastle could achieve about half of Barcelona’s membership so based on these rough figures we would need to double our input to the club to get a similar income. Obviously Barcelona is different to Newcastle but I think it should be properly costed to see if it is possible even if it is only done progressively over a period of years.

    Fan ownership wont happen.
Barca have 108,000 paid up members ffs.
It just becomes way too expensive for normal folk.

Lew, how is £2 a week too expensive for normal folk? How much does the mobile cost, the broadband, the Sky subscription, a pint of beers, a packet of fags, a day ticket on the Metro? C’mon, folks, the Barca model MUST come to Tyneside sooner or later, although it might put the Blogs out of the job… I think ‘put up or shut up’ might then be apt! NUFC is probably the only one club city in England that has the passionate Barca culture, so it must be the only viable solution after decades of boardroom induced problems.

    Jinky – £2 per week?????
    S0 £104 per year x 50,000 fans =£5.2M
Hello!!!! wtf you gonna buy with that????
even if you make that £20 per week, thats still only£52M.
OK thats the wage bill nearly sorted then.

    What a croc of S H I T E !!!!!

(or am I missing something here? – please enlighten me.)
