There is news that the staff at St James’ Park have been told to report for work at 9 am this morning.
The Brains Trust at Newcastle
That seems very strange to us – surely Ashley isn’t actually going to speak to the staff and tell them something – that seems very unlike Mike whose mantra seems to be – don’t tell anybody about anything – that’ll keep them in the dark.
And that’s just one reason why Newcastle right now is one of the worst run clubs in the land, and has been for the last 12 months.
And if this meeting is to announce that Mike has, in his wisdom, decided to take the club off the market for a second time, after having the club in hand-cuffs for over 13 weeks as he’s tried to sell the club over the summer – that would only be consistent with the nonsense he’s engaged in over the last 12 months.
It didn’t take Damien Duff over the weekend, to tell us that it was great to join a club like Fulham, who are actually a well run club, but any club is well run these days coompared to Newcastle under Ashley.
Basically Ashley is just completely hopeless at running (or should we say trying to run), a football club, and he just refuses to employ people who know how to do it. Instead he relies on Derek LLambias who has about as much of a clue and experience in running a football club as Mike, and believe us that’s not much.
If the news today is indeed that Ashley will retain ownership of Newcastle for the foreseeable future, that will be terrible news for the club and Newcastle fans, let’s be very clear about that – terrible news.
We’ll have more of the same to look forward to from Ashley – and heaven knows what antics he will get up to in January – maybe he’ll try to sell again just to ensure it’s harder for the club to get promoted.
And he’ll probably put the club up for sale again next summer, whether we get promoted or not, thereby guaranteeing once again, that the club will not be able to prepare properly for the upcoming season. Is there no limit to this man’s complete incompetence in football?
Is Mike Ashley bad for Newcastle or is Mike Ashley bad for Newcastle.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – if this was an ordinary business where leaders are accountable for results, then Mike Ashley and Llambias would have been thrown out the door long ago. But I guess one way to have employment security is to own your own business.
And this is not meant to be a personal attack on Mike, because it’s based on his running of Newcastle United over 12 months, just the facts, and there are just too many of them over the last 12 months to support this view of Mike – it’s not made up – it’s completely factual, and that’s what makes it even more tragic for the Tyneside club.
- Having four different managers last season
- Supporting Dennis Wise over then manager Kevin Keegan last Sep 1st
- Bringing in players Kevin, the manager after all, didn’t even know about
- Not having a big enough squad last season
- Trying to sell the club for 4 months during the season (Sep -December last year) and then staying after all
- Failing to get enough players in last January
- Letting 10 players go this summer and getting only one in – on loan – and the squad was too small last season
- Deciding to sell the club this summer and putting a stranglehold on the club for 13 weeks (and counting)
These are all signs of complete management incompetence.
Let’s hope he’s come to his senses and will sell – to anybody!
Comments welcome.

Comment #4Maybe there’s been a problem with the staff’s timekeeping and he’s decided to tighten up?
In the meantime, the club’s football-related priorites are as ever, being totally ignored.
The best we can hope for is that he may have come to his senses and decided to sack Llambias for conduct incompatable with his position and employ someone who knows about running a football club.
Wishful thinking on my part I’ll admit,

Comment #9Why would Ashley sack someone who’s willing to run naked across a footy pitch for his boss???
I think if all Ashleys employers did the same, they’d get a pay rise instead of the sack… lol

Comment #12Let me start by saying, I hate Mike Ashley. But I really am amazed how desperate everyone on this site seems to be to get Barry Moat in. Let me remind everyone that before MA came along we were all desperate to get rid of Fat Freddy, and though MA was the Messiah. Well look what happened…
Another thing, Barry Moat is clearly struggling to raise the money to buy the club. Now yes its possible that he is simply trying to save the cash in order to use what he has to buy more players, but does no one apart from me get the feeling that Moat isnt exactly rolling in the required capital to a) buy out MA b) keep players like Steven Taylor and c) add new players to the squad? Think about it – if he had so much money he wouldnt NEED the overdraft from Barclays, he would simply pay it off.
I have a funny feeling that if the deal DOES go through we may all wish in a few months time that it hadnt. “Better the devil you know” as they say. Perhaps MA stays, appoints Houghton, sanctions a few signings, gets rid of a couple more players and then we can focus on promotion? Remember, I started by saying that I really do hate MA for what he has done to out club, but all the same, I think alot of people on this and other sites are expecting WAY too much of Mr Moat and his seemingly meagre financial resources.

Yes Harry, if you click your link, it give you the link I put up, which say: http://www.nufc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10278~1766459,00.html
Take from that page what you like, I’m just showing everyone that something, dated today maybe happening, whether that changes I don’t know, I’m just a fan who wants to know what the frak is going on & any bit of TRUE info is better than a tonne of false info 😉

Comment #17Everything crossed that the news is good news when it comes out – like most people I don’t know if that is going to be the case though but at least it is something we can cling on to. Interesting Hughton throwing his name into the ring now wanting to be manager on the day of the “official news release” 🙂

Comment #25Lets hope for a very positive statement…..
I am expecting a statement in the next 2 hours…. SSN have not said anything today, normally they know things before NUFC know themselves….
No leaks in the papers today or anything? Either nothing is happening, Ashley stays till next season, or in the history of NUFC this is the best kept secret!!
Anyway Ladies and Gents, ill be praying and crossing everything i can!!
