Moat Deal Must Succeed Or Fail By Friday

Time has to be called on the deal for Barry Moat to buy Newcastle from Mike Ashley this Friday.

mike ashley barry moat

Ashley and Moat – a good friends deal?

That will give at least some time for the Newcastle club to sort out their transfers, mainly incoming.

And if the Sun report this morning is true – that Moat will pay £80M overall for Newcastle, with £20M down now and £10M a year – then he has even less money than we first thought.

Moat is being given 6 years to buy the club?   Surely not.

That sounds like a hopeless deal for Ashley to us, and is likely to be just rubbish reporting.

Surely other potential buyers, if they hear about those terms, would be in for Newcastle like a shot.

But maybe not since Ashley seems to have turned Newcastle into a toxic asset,  with little interest being shown this time around in buying the club, which has really surprised us.

But this latest Newcastle soap opera must end soon, and if Moat cannot do the deal, it’s simply because he hasn’t got the money.

Of course the alternative is even worse, with Ashley keeping the club, which we’re not sure we can take.

If anybody can find a dumber piece of business, than that which Newcastle have engaged in over the summer, we’d like to hear about t.

Comments welcome.

Ashley will keep the club and gamble on getting back into the Prem with thread bare squad. Thats what Sports Direct is, its just cheap clothing thats how he made his money. He thinks he can save money now then sell it for 180-200 mill if we got promoted its just like he said from the start “its a new toy, a bit of fun” If he can make the manageing director run naked he is acknowledging we are a joke.
I see Soll has signed for the Magpies on SSN

I think saying that because he pay the 80mill outright doesn’t mean he cannot afford the club. Paying over time will make him more liquid and hence make funds available to rebuild the club and bring players in initially. It would be a clever business decision which I think would definitly be best for the club.

The problem with that deal of paying Ashley £20M upfront then £10M a year to make up a total of £80M is:

The £20M upfront only gives Moat 25% control

Then with each £10M payment he will only gain another 12.5%

That means (assuming his only payment this year will be the initial £20M) that i will be 4 years before Moat has the majority share!

I cant see Ashley not being involved and having the final say on everything until Moat owns the majority share.

If this is the type of deal which is in the pipeline I feel it will be disasterous for the club.

For God sake Ed this is the Sun your quoting here.

Obviously Moat and Ashley have agreed the price and the terms of the deal, but they are private and none of the press know the details. The sticking point is the overdraft facility which the banks set at £40m in the premiership but at only £10m in the Championship with NUFC currently £20m in to it. That means Moat would have to find £10m to pay off the bank. He may have the £10m allocated for new signing and doesn’t want to use it and leave us short, alternatively he could sell some more player to raise the cash but he obviously doesn’t want to do that either, so he’s trying to push the bank.

Even with no money to spend he’s got to be better than Ashley.

Can anyone explain why the club has to come off the market at a specific date? Why can’t it just be left up for sale until someone comes in for it? Instead of all this “Ashley will keep it for another year and then try to sell again” malarkey? No other business or house or car or whatever would be handled in this on – off fashion. So why the club?

Its because all Ashley is concerned about i profit

His favoured time of the year is the transfer windows because he sees the £ signs!

I dont beleive that he would keep the club for another year, I honestly beleive if we aint sold this time, we will be for sale in december again!

Fact is we don’t have any facts at all really.

Size of overdraft – we don’t really know. Do people know yours? No.

Amount Ashleu will accept for the club? Dunno. Less than 100 million probably.

Does Moat have 20 million held back to persuade Al to take the reins and spend in the winter transfer window – possibly.

Will the deal be done in staged payments?
    Whe knaas?

Who are the backers of Moat’s bid – Americans? Well that narrows it down a bit.

Is this Moat bloke going to be any better than Shep or Fat Mike? Heaven only knaas.

Where is the money going for the players already sold since June? Ashley’s arse-pocket? reducing Barclay’s overdraft? or reducing the asking price for the club as a whole?

Its unlikely Ashley will hang onto the club and use Moat as an excuse to keep stripping his own assets, as NUFC.COM suggested in a moment of despair, because the last thing he wants is to be left with a crap side, no buyer and our CocaCola season to go flat when we get a few injuries. Then we really COULD ‘do a Leeds’.

At the end of it all, squawk all we like, we may as well try and get on with wor lives because there’s buggerall we can do about any of it.

If Moat only has to pay a down payment of £20m & then £10m for the next 6 years, why hasn’t someone else like Shearer or FFS made a play to buy the club from Ashley, it’s because its bogus crap-loid rubbish….

which 3 players would people sell if we have to (as is being reported today)?

I would get rid of coloccini, butt and geremi.

that would leave the 1st choice midfield unchanged and mean that we need to get in a decent centre back that can do a job in this league.

surely there is a loan signing we could make, some decent young centre back from the likes of arsenal or man utd?

It is still a mystery to me where the parachute payments come into the value of the club and its costs/player wages. We are meant to get 2 parachute payments following relegation of around £10 million each (I might be wrong on the exact value/number but something around that?), surely these should have been earmarked against the overdraft as a point of principle to deal with the change in bank lending for our new status? Regardless of being sold or not you would think that would make sound financial/business sense?

It is the rag that shines out of its own arse we are quoting here. Garbage. Since when has the Sun ever had a good or accurate word to say about NUFC? How do they have inside information that even dumbarse (sorry Llambias) does not have? Get rid of Coloccini by all means, and Enrique (a pity) if needs be. Grab Lovenkrands, Olivier Bernard and Skjelbred, maybe Beckford.
Try to get Aaron Hughes back, if not Andy O’Brien then. There are some enterprising Norwegians, Danes and Scots around that would stiffen our first XI too.

Here’s a post I logged earlier this morning and it may just register with other bloggers. If the cap fits etc!

There seems to have been quite a sudden and profound change to the tone of this site.

I haven’t been posting as long as many of you guys but what’s noticeable of late is that no matter what the thread, some posters seem hell bent on going off topic and introducing their own, dare I say it, toilet humour!

Where’s the football gone or have some homed in on this site to conduct their own conversations using language that one couldn’t even call witty?

If they want to do that, why not set up their own site or go to another and leave this one to focus on what used to make it one where those genuinly interested in the fortunes of Newcastle United can discuss the mess that is the club.

Remember guys, kids post on this site and Ed puts a lot of his own time and effort into running it – please respect that and don’t ruin it for many and lose more posters.

I suggested Bernard cos he’s free and training with Toronto. I suppose in full match conditions he could be injured over and over again. I am just worried that by the time Ashley sells, after furrther asset stripping, NUFC will be called Shearers Bar XI and play in the car park on Sundays.

As far as whether Moat can really nuy the club, whether he has money to sustain it, whether he plans to pay in instalments, whether he can fund buying new players etc….who knows what is the truth! If only Ashley can for once learn from past mistakes I don’t especially care who owns the club!

As for players, if someone told me we’d sell no more players in the next week, keep the current squad for the next year and add, say, 2 new players before Sept 1st (loans or whatever) I think that’d be a very happy outcome. ‘At least 5 players in” is probably unrealistic. I’d love us to start integrating some of the youngsters with the first team right now to give us more options. Not too many at a time, just maybe a couple for starters on Wednesday,
