The next 7 days could be good or bad for Newcastle fans, but if the last 14 weeks are anything to go by, they may not be good.
Steven Taylor – we need to keep this local lad
One thing we’d like to see is nobody go out of the door, regardless whether we can afford the wage bill. If that happens we have enough top class players to put us a great position to be promoted by January.
And wouldn’t it be a terrific investment to ensure we can get back at the first attempt. After watching the games on TV, they talk almost exclusively about the Premier League teams, and they’re the best, so who can blame them?
And Kevin Keegan put in a decent performance last night as analyst, when Liverpool were surprisingly beaten by Aston Villa in what was a great game to watch.
Newcastle caretaker boss Chris Hughton has again said Newcastle have not received any approaches for Steven Taylor, as far as he is aware.
Hughton wants to keep the current squad together as he looks to pout together a real promotion charge from the Championship, after getting an excellent start in our first 4 games, where some of out players have looked a cut above the opposition.
He told Sky Sports News:
“No, there has not been an approach for Taylor, and where we are at the moment is that we have a squad with us that will be involved in a squad for tomorrow night, in the Carling Cup against Huddersfield.”
“I’m very hopeful that come the end of the transfer window that that squad will remain the same and I’m quite sure if there’s any change to that I will be made aware of that.”
We’re hopeful as well, and then the club will need to work out a way by which they can afford the wage bill, whoever the owner and manager may be next week. But it has to put us in good stead for promotion at the first attempt, which we want now, more than ever.
But the stark reality is that we will still unload some players – but let’s hope they are players like Geremi, Xisco (we’ll hardly miss them), Coloccini and the like. Players we can easily replace with cheaper alternatives, but just as good, if not better.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Bowburn…. bang the drum to your heart’s content. It can’t do anybody any harm and most likely’ll do folk good.
A result tonight? Tricky but managble if Hughton can get the right blend of youthful enthusiam and enterprise with experienced level heads. The latter are hard to come by these days.
Let’s be optimistic and suggest a 3-1 win for us. Now that would be a good result after what’ll be a cracking game.

Comment #42I hope everyone knows the tune for The Lone Ranger for when he scores?
And maybe in ironic celebratory fashion, when Vuckic scores we can sing Haris, Haris, who the **** is Haris?
Mind you I’m waiting for the good Lord to provide enough rain so that my game is off tonight so I can go to the Toon game. It looks promising.

Comment #43I hope we do hold on to the current squad, bar a few of the over paid – xsico, geremi, colo…
I see the points being made about players taking a pay cut, all I would say on the is, it would be nice for the highly paid to say “ok I wouldnt mind staying at the club, I’ll take a cut of such and such a %, in return perhaps add something on as a bonus” then if we were to get promoted we’d still have a decent squad to take up and they could go back to their contracted wage?! Not gonna happen like!
TG, have you thought of any songs for Ranger yet? I thought:
His name is Ranger,
He’ll cause the Danger,
– maybe you can add to this!! haha 😉

Comment #46I am not defending Ashley. I am just stating what has been reported. I’m sure he thought he was getting a good deal and jumped at the chance showing no caution. The Halls have put nothing in but took a hell of a lot out and where are they now in our time of need? Can’t be seen for dust

Comment #48the 48 hour deadline the others interested but it was what he did not tell Ashley, that caused the problems that all the loans were secures against Wynyard property that had to be repaid if the hall sold up. & the 48 hours was supposedly that hall was leaving the country to meet a potential buyer, and this all took place at the fa cup final.

Comment #50I think we’re all in agreement about Collocini and Xisco, but just putting it out there that Geremi was part of the 4-3-3 formation, with Butt and Barton, that brought us that purple patch under KK at the end of the 07/08 season.

Comment #51Hang on – the Halls came in when we were up sh*t creek and left us as a very stable, top half Premiership club.
I couldn’t care less if they made a profit, since when has that been a crime. Everyone gained – they ran the club well and enjoyed the fruits of that. That’s how you get a profit from a club longterm, by getting success on the pitch!
