Kevin Nolan rightly beleives the number one priority for Newcastle this season has to the Championship and getting an automatic promotion – not one via the playoffs – it would be trying on the old nerves.
A delighted Kevin Nolan after scoring Saturday
And Kevin talked to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today:
“At this moment in time, although we want a good cup run, the actual fact is the main priority is the league, and making sure we’re up there.”
“We want to try and get back into the Premier League as quickly as possible. The cup’s got to take a back seat.”
But Kevin also knows that if the lads can progress tonight we could get a top Premier League side either at St James’s Park or away. AZnd that will give the lads a chance to measure up against Premier league opposition.
Kevin continued:
“If we do manage to get through, that will be fantastic, as hopefully we’ll have four or five players in by the next round.” “That would be great but we’ll see what happens.”
“We all want to play in every game, but what we’ve got to be careful of is that we’ve got a small squad.” “I want to play – don’t get me wrong.”
“I think all the lads will be, but we’ve got to be careful, as a lot of the lads are playing a lot of games, and you’ve got to be very careful with a small squad with suspensions, injuries and things like that.”
Those are good words from Kevin, because as our players are forced to play too many games, becasue of the small squad, that’s when you get the injuries and it will not take many of them for our current sqaud to be stretched to the limit quite quickly.
It was great to see Kevin score his first goal for the clubon Saturday, and maybe this season he’ll come into his own, along with fellow January signing, fellow maiden goal scorer on Saturday, and fellow Liverpudlian – Ryan Taylor.
Ryan seems to get criticized a lot by some of our readers, but we think he’s a much better player than he’s shown so far, and that goal on Saturday was just awsome.
Comments welcome.

Not being funny, but even i could claim someone had told me Taylor is going to Everton, since thats what the PAPERS have been saying since City first start chasing Lescott over a month ago. Ryan you clearly know nothing. Your just making (slightly) educated guesses. Give it up, you have been shown up.

Comment #86Not being funny but maybe if you would stop arguing, could somebody help me out with my question; for some weird reason, or I may have misinterpreted it, are the BBC showing us live on their website tonight?
Anyway why would Taylor be going to Everton when they’re signing Distin?

Comment #105The Chronicle haven’t got the same source, they thought it was Sheard bidding, i knew it was from another group who Shread was working for.
Anyway this group are trying to put deal in place by next Monday. It won’t be all finalises, but they will be in a position to appoint a new manager, and bring in players.

Comment #111Just to throw a pebble into the Taylor to Everton debate, I’d read somewhere today (don’t ask me, I can’t remember where) an Everton supporter assured NUFC fans that Everton had talked to Taylor [or his agent?] this morning, a fee of £7.5m was mentioned, and Taylor was reportedly not interested in leaving us.
Take it or leave it and what will be will be so don’t argue about who’s the cleverest dick in the world. People fall out over the daftest of things!

Anyway out of all the “i’m committed to NUFC” statements at the end of last season, Taylor’s was most blatantly the outright “no, I will NOT leave whatever happens” so i’m not too worried about that.

Comment #116This is NY consortium story is almost certainly a load of sh*te. How many consortiums have we had in for us now that have come to nothing?
It does seem a little funny that with Ashley so obviously unwilling to spend any cash before the window closes and the excuses for why the Moat sale hasn’t happened yet wearing thin, another perfect excuse suddenly pops up out of nowhere!
Ashley “Erm, yeah, sorry I’ve still not bought anyone but there’s this really, really rich bunch of Americans who want to buy the club, you’ll love them, so I’ve postponed everything again. I know I know, I wanted to buy players too, but y’know, it’ll be worth it in the long run…”. As soon as the window closes we won’t hear about this mystery NY buyer ever again.
This is another false delaying tactic. If you don’t believe me, answer me this – why would such a successful, professional outfit like this mystery buyer wait so long before making a bid?

Comment #117Some everton fan on the Newcastle page said this
Hi Guys, there seems to be a number of Newcastle fans worried about an Everton bid for Taylor. I wouldnt panic, Moyes spoke to Taylor and he just wanted to stay with the Toon, the bid I believe was around the 7.5 million mark, so its going to go no further, Cheers “

Comment #120I strongly disagree when people say the cup is not as important as the league especially when we ain’t seen a trophy for fifty years or so. Anyway, i would love to see young Harris tonight as i’ve heard good things about him. I do not want to see Xisco as this kid couldn’t hit a barn door even if he was standing a few feet away. So i would love to see the following line up for tonight.
………………………………Krul…………………………..
Simpson……….Taylor…………..Tozer……..Kadar
R.Taylor………Smith……………Harris……Jonas..
……………………..Ameobi…….Ranger…………….
I admit i aint got a clue what the line up is and i don’t know who is being rested but i would like to see something similar.
