Chris Hughton – Club Will Decide Who Leaves

Newcastle caretaker manager Chris Hughton continues to concentrate on the playing side of things at the club, and not let himself or the players get distracted by all the nonsense that’s been going on these last 14 weeks.

Chris Hughton – hopes to strengthen squad

Chris will give the youngsters their chance tonight against Huddersfield in the Carling Cup, but he still hopes he will be given the go-ahead to strengthen his squad soon.

When we say soon,  if it’s not done within the next 6 days, it will not get done – just think of that – but it could only happen at Newcastle.

Chris said today:

“The only way to deal with the takeover is to focus on the job in hand,” “The moment I’m able to tell the players something about any takeover then I will do. They can’t allow things they can’t control to affect them.”

“There’s no doubt the club will have the final say on who goes out. In my personal opinion, to put us in the best position to compete we’ve got to be as strong as we can and I’d certainly be delighted if we didn’t lose anybody else.”

“We need to make sure that by the end of this window we have a squad big enough to compete. We’re quite strong in midfield. We need possibly two or three new faces provided no one else leaves. I do feel we need to make sure we have the right numbers at the beginning of next week.”

One of the few bright spots this summer, has been the down to earth attitude of Chris, and his ability to keep the players concentrating on playing and getting results.

He’s done a great job, and whatever may happen before next Wednesday, if anything,  he deserves credit for a job well done at Newcastle.

We cannot say that about the executive management at the club though, in fact just the opposite, they’ve been discredited.

Comments welcome.

Just hope people stay off his back if we lose tonight, which is quite likely.

If ash stays I hope Chris gets the shout to continue his work, he has proved he deserves a shot at this season and most importantly he handles the background whisters very well and keeps the plays focused…

Whoever comes in now can only rock the boat, WE NEED STABILITY!!!

Sheffield Wednesday have transfer-listed wing-nut Francis Jeffers for chasing after a player to head butt him last night.

We could probably get him for nowt, and him and Joey could let their tension out on each other on the training ground….

…..”HEY HEY HEY JOEY KAAAAAM DOWN!”

“FK OFF FRANNY, KAAAAAAM DOWN, HEY HEY”

    Could work a treat!

(sorry, I posted that on the previous thread but it’s more relevant to this one)

You know what’s so awful/strange about this transfer window – normally I’d want it to go on a bit longer to give us more of a chance to bring players in; this time I’m desperate for it to SLAM SHUT so nobody else can leave!

We can bring in players on loan left, right and centre OUTSIDE the Winter and Summer windows due the the transfer window loan clauses for teams in the CCC and below. No problem there.

    Fingers crossed!!!!!!!!

Being a cynic and noting the fact that comings and goings appear to be out of Hughton’s hands and the club’s had a good start to the season (touching wood!), this blows a hole into the fans’ argument that a manager can’t manage without a say in buying and selling.

That is precisely the point that Ashley was making when he appointed a Director of Football and a manager who he was expecting to act purely as a coach!

All credit to Hughton and as far as Ashley’s concerned, it’s game set and match …. well so far as the manager/ DoF/ Coach issue’s concerned anyway.

Guys, check out Ian Winwood’s column in the Mirror, it is laughable to say the least and sums up what the media think of us now…….

    ROSCOE…..

I felt f@cking livid when i read that article…the thing is that the majority of fottball fans like sniggering and scoffing at newcastle! We will come again.

I have lifted my self imposed ban from returning to St. James whilst Ashley is still in control of the club. I was away on hol for the two league games; but results have given me a renewed sense of optimism that the pre-season had all but battered out of me! Are many going tonight? I’m hoping there will be around 20,000 or so there! I hope to catch my first glimpse of harris vuckic!

    Sam jacks beforehand 🙂 x

I’ve got a very different take on the window. I think we need to see our worst high-earners leave before Tuesday, even if no replacements arrive until later.

    Why?

Because what we need is loanees, and we can buy them right through to November.

Because every penny we pay to the likes of Geremi, Xisco etc. for doing nowt is a penny we can’t use to get in much more cost-effective players instead.

Because once the transfer window shuts, most of the clubs who may be interested in this lot (i.e. top tier) can’t buy them.

So – I DO want to see an exodus. Just as long as Tayls isn’t in it. I’d rather see a dozen loaners coming in and lose Geremi, Xisco, Colo, Butt – possibly Enrique and Jonas too – than keep bleeding money and giving Ashley more excuse to cut more costs.

Don’t suppose our good start has nothing to do with the fact that most of our players who are still at the club are highly paid internationals who are playing against Championship standard players?

Hughton brought in Simpson so what’s ya point?

DoF certainly didn’t work well at Spurs but seems to work ok at Chel$ki. It really depends on how it’s implemented and who are appointed into the manager and DoF positions.

Lesh and Stardust – you’re a bit previous there, fellas!

A bit of proportion here: 10 points is ok. Only 3 other Championship teams have managed it.

Except they don’t have half a premiership team still playing for them. Neither will we, soon.

And there are 42 games to go. And they have twice the squad size we do.

Hughton’s done well, no doubt. But to conclude that, against all other evidence, the DOF thing does work after all based on four games against teams we ought to thrash is utter todge.

In fact, you can pretty much trace back the whole demise of the club to Ashley’s decision to put Wise in as DOF. All it seems to have done is:

    1. Lost us some good players (Milner, Given)
    2. Spent huge amounts on awful ones (Xisco, Nacho, etc.)
    3. Lost us our manager just as things were on the up (not to mention the £8m constructive dismissal claim)
    4. Narrowed down the list of managers who’ll work for the club to Hughton and JFK.

So take your DOF thing and go support some foreign team in a league where it may work. And then wonder why the Champs League is full of Prem clubs where managers pick the players.

If Ashley had stuck to a conventional structure and simply made KK stick to a budget like every other club, do you really think we’d be playing bloody Leicester on Monday??

    Sick of this BS.

The only problem i see with our DOF was that Ma didnt think of telling KK that he was only a coach. also if you think about the players that the DOF brought in Xisco, nacho, colo they really set the epl alight and they are that good we cant get shoot of them. in an ideal world a DOF would work but all the staff need to know what their duties are. but i remember something that Curbishly said that football is a results bussiness and if you dont get results the manager gets the sack even if he had no say in who was being brought in.
