Chris Hughton hands full debuts to three Newcastle United youngsters for tonight’s visit of Huddersfield Town, in the Carling Cup.
Hungarian defender Tamas Kadar (19), Congolese midfielder Kazenga LuaLua (18) and England Under-19 striker Nile Ranger (18) all start a match for the first time, while Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul is making his home debut, but his 3rd appearance for the club.
The back four will be Kadar, Ryan Taylor, Jose Enrique and Danny Simpson, in some order, but exactly who plays in the center of defense, we’re not sure.
It may be Simpson partnering Kadar there.
In midfield, experienced captain Nicky Butt returns for his first start of the season (also true for Geremi), with LuaLua, Danny Guthrie and Geremi.
Nile Ranger will be supported in attack by Kevin Nolan.
Slovenian starlet Haris Vuckic, 17, local lad Ryan Donaldson 18, and promising former Swindon player Ben Tozer, 19 are all named among the substitutes.
Neither Steven Taylor or Coloccini are on the bench, and with our next game not until next Monday – one day before the transfer window closes – there will be renewed speculation that both may have played their last game for the club.
We need to win this game, and then beat Leicester City next Monday.
Next Tuesday evening, we’ll all be able to count the players still standing at Newcastle.
Some of us may have to look for our boots next Wednesday morning! 😀
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #4Tozer’s 19? Am I the only one that thinks that even at that young age he doesn’t look to be living up to the potential everyone said he had when he was first signed?

Comment #13Taylor’s not being sold, the club have said that.
Then again, if Everton offer 12 million or so, I reckon that’d be easily enough to temp pork chop into selling.
I wouldn’t read too much into Taylor or Colo not being in the squad.
On another note, I’ve just agreed to buy a 2008 Yamaha R1…yipee.

Comment #22Geremi mght be a good shout at CB. We need to know if he can play there as we’re bound to run out of cover soon enough and it’s probably the only place he might be able to play now his legs have gone…

Comment #23quite worried by that lack of midfield pace, like.
ok, we’ve not go the quickest midfield normally anyway, but with geremi, butt, guthrie and nolan i don’t foresee a lot of fast flowing football.
seems like a lot will be asked of LuaLua tonight, as he would appear to be the main creative midfielder/forward in the starting line up.
i wouldn’t read too much into taylor not being in the squad.
let’s face it, we have a tiny squad, the league is far and away the priority, so the carling cup will see kids played wherever they can be, and as many first choice players rested as is possible.

Comment #24well this will seem like im talking poo, but i am friends with a 19 year old player from s’oton, he told me it has been confirmed for the past couple of days, its a loan with a view to buy if we go up, martin jol was intrested in him but wants to stay in england, ac milan were also sniffing around, believe me if you like but this is a dead cert

Comment #30trying not to read too much into Taylor not being in the squad. Fingers bloody crossed! Hughton has picked the perfect team for tonight, respect sir. Gerrard, where’d you hear that? He’s never won a game at spurs but maybe getting away from them is what he needs, his bogey club and all that. Was a huge prospect a couple years ago, I remember United were pipped by spurs so if true this could be a smashing acquisition!

Comment #34If your Bale rumours are true, that’d be awesome. Can play left wing or left back, and a great free kick taker too, maybe someone can show Ryan Taylor how to score them 😉 (not that he needed showing when he was playing against us mind)
