New news today that the latest bid for the Newcastle club is backed by a multi-billion pound New York-based company.
Now that seems more like it, and it is understood that Sheard is only spearheading the bid for Newcastle, and he does not have the required funds to run the football club.
Sheard is simply the person heading the deal and is bringing Seymour Pierce together with a mystery American consortium.
And the other good news is that the group is trying to complete the takeover before the end of Mike Ashley’s recently imposed deadline, which we suppose is Friday.
Sheard told the Chronicle today:
“It’s not me who is buying the club – that should be made very clear.” “I’ve put together a package for a group who want to come in and take over the club.”
“That’s what they want to do, given the opportunity to do so.” “Talks have been going on for a couple of weeks now.”
The Chronicle is reporting the group behind Sheard’s approach is led by a wealthy American backer, who has big links in US Sports.
This makes a lot of sense because America is becoming more and more interested in English Football, because it’s the global game with an immense following around the world.
And even one of the top TV Sports channels in America – ESPN, owned by ABC, is now reporting on Premier League games with Kevin Keegan as an analyst.
The mystery group will deploy the strategic holding company, Omnicom Group to rebrand the Newcastle on a global scale.
Something we remember Ashley said he was going to do after he purchased the club two years ago, and two years later we are in England’s second division.
Am I dreaming this – let’s pinch my arm – ouch that hurt – well I guess it’s true. 😀
A source close to the deal claimed today:
“It’s all still ongoing, while Geoff is keen to be involved, the money is coming from across the Atlantic.”
“It would be American money that pays for the club and the day-to-day running of it should they be successful, but they have plans in place to make sure Newcastle live up to their potential as a worldwide brand.”
“It wasn’t too long ago that Newcastle were above Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in the table during the Sir Bobby Robson era, and there is no reason why that potential can’t be lived up to again.”
Omnicom will look to the public relations firm Fleishman-Hillard International Communications , in order to improve relations between the long suffering fans and the club. But make no mistake Newcastle fans will be treat with the dignity they deserve if Americans own the club.
They realize that Newcastle fans pays the money that essentially funds the club, and they will be very nicely suprised if this deal goes through. That’s a promise.
It’s about time the best fans in the land were treated with the dignity they deserve.
Omnicom have headquarters in both New York and London and are regarded as one of the world giants in advertising and marketing communications. They are listed on the New York stock exchange (stock symbol OMC), with a market value of £11.62B.
Talks today were understood to be ongoing between the two parties, but they’ll have to move fast to do a deal, becasue they will know all about the pausity of the sqyad and that new players need to be brough in.
There again they could keep all the players at their current wages as an initial investmnent in the club, and that would certainly help Newcastle get promoted at the first attempt.
We have to hope this deal goes through but there’s been so many false dawns this summer, we’ll believe it – if and when it happens.
Please be true!

Comment #10And the band played “Believe it if you like”!
Too many false rumours and false dawns. Next we will hear that this multi-gazillion US group can’t meet the asking price by 10p or some other c**p.

Comment #15I have to agree with most of the comments, moat appears firmly in the driving seat with all of these extentions and I would be suprised if:
1. Ash doesn’t keep the Club
2. If sold it is not sold to Moat
Anything else just does not hold water right now… Personally I hope Ash keeps the club for now, I would be really concerned if Moat got his hands on it, Shearer will do little to fix the holes in the sinking ship… Ash at least pump a (LITTLE) money in to get a few bodies in for a promotion push, I’m getting sick of playing the likes of Crytal Palace and Reading already…
Of course a Billionaire owner is the prefference but unfortunately it is also the prefference of tabloid trash that keep writting thes outlandish stories with no substance…
I’m off to the Arena to beef up my gladiator:

Comment #19Perhaps we could start a book on how many BS bidders are linked to NUFC by the press by the time Ashley leaves/dies/crawls back into his hole.
Just sell those useless, overpaid players, please!! The rest can happen at any time, but we can’t sell freeloaders like Geremi and Xisco after Tuesday!!

Comment #20Barry Moat obviously has tried his best to but the club and pulled his pluck out in doing so but the smell of loadsamoney will knock Ashley off his feet.
So Mike, thanks for feck all,put the cash in your pocket, sling yer hook, take Lambsarse with you and watch the door on your way out.
And dont ever come back.

Much respect to Richard Money for doing a great job with all the boys.

Comment #30NUFC should be a well run, entirely sustainable, club answerable to its fans on the pitch and in the boardroom. The structure is there, the support is there, the tradition is there. Instead here we go again, whoring to international investors when a bit of brains and enterprise closer to home would suffice.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not one of those who thinks life stops at the wrong side of the Swing Bridge, but the current farce has shown that selling 10 ‘key’ players produces the sort of results the purchase of those same 10 key never achieved – especially Owen (whose arrival nearly caused me to burn my Fairs cup programs in anger!).
I like the Barca model, the successful community owned club with attitude. Evan if it needs a longer transition period to be free of Ashley so be it, let’s get it right. Being another brand name in an investor’s portfolio the other side of the Atlantic will only end in tears, again. Man U are mortgaged to the hilt and still return very modest profits despite a level of success we couldn’t dream about.
A few sweet words and some fans are already won over. Shame on you! Omnicom, my a**!

Comment #31Yeah JFK was a bit full of himself with no reason… It’s not like we were at the dizzy heights of the Prem when his heart packed up, once a scrapper always a scrapper and thats what JFK is, fine for teams like Palace and Birmingham but NUFC deserves a bit of Class and Hughton is giving JFK a Masterclass in that at the moment…
