Stand-in manager Chris Hughton has already said that 21 year-old Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul will make his home debut against Huddersfield tonight at St. James’ Park – KO 7:45 pm..
And with more youngsters likely to start and be on the bench this will tell us just how ready our youngsters are to fill in when they have to this season. It will be an early measure of how strong the squad is right now.
It’s a really good move by Chris, because this is an opportunity to blood the youngsters, ready for when they get their first team call-ups, and yes, while we may not win tonight, the league has to be our number one priority by a long way this season.
Andy Carroll (groin) definitely misses out tonight, while Joey Barton (foot) is doubtful, and we don’t expect him to be risked.
Slovenian starlet Haris Vuckic, who turned 17 last Friday, is named in the squad, and the game could also see senior debuts for Ryan Donaldson and Tamas Kadar.
In fact we expect Kadar to get a start tonight, probably in place of Coloccini, and maybe Andy Carroll will get his first start too.
But we’re not going to hazard a guess at the full line up – but that will be very interesting when it’s announced around 7:00pm tonight. Let’s just say we expect Krul, Kadar and Ranger to get starts tonight.
We expect Huddersfield to name their strongest side, in an attempt to cause an upset, which of course would delight Geordie manager Lee Clark.
Our next game is Monday night against Leicester City at St. James’ Park, KO 7:45 pm, and if there are any developments with the sale of the club , and for instance the new American bidders manage to secure the deal, watch for a bumper crowd on Monday.
But we need a win and all 3 points, and nothing less will be good enough.
