Sol Campbell Gets £10M Deal Over 5 Years

Sol Campbell has signed a new deal at Notts County for an amazing £2M a year over the next 5 years.

Sol Campbell _Portsmouth

Sol Campbell –  £2M a year to play in England’s 4th Division

We had hoped that Sol would sign for a year with Newcastle, and we think he could have made a big difference in the team.

But it certainly looks like Sol has gone for the money and he’ll be 39 when he finishes this contract at Meadow Lane, and by then Notts County may even be in the Premier League.

Sol signing for the money makes it a lot easier for us to accept we lost out on him, because we wouldn’t want players who are just here for the money – we’ve had far too many of them.

Sven Eriksson apparently had been pestering Sol every 3-4 days about moneybags Notts County, and he is said to have signed yesterdayIt seems like Notts County are the Manchester City of the lower leagues.

The only reason players go there is for the money. And from what we’ve read it hasn’t gone down fantastically well with their fans, because Sol will be raking in around £40K/week, and playing against players who don’t earn anywhere near that, in fact they are a million miles from that kind of money.

There’s something we just don’t like about deals like this – we’re not sure they’re good for football. It’s very similar to David Beckham at the LA Galaxy.

It’s going to be hard for Sol to click he’s there for anything but the money – but look out for something like – I bought into the Eriksson vision for this great club.

Or something like that – and maybe it’s true because money is the only reason Sven is there too.

And to think he had the chance to wear those black and white stripes for the real Magpies.

But of course it’s  still an unbelievable deal for Campbell, since he also gets to coach, and has said he wants to be a manager one day.

Comments welcome.

Not trying to wind anyone up, but i have heard that there is more news about this new takeover bid, coming out today. The bidder is not Sheard, he has introduced the new bidders to Ashley and Lambias. I have been told that they have provided proof of funds.

The Chronicle are expected to print this in today’s paper.

If Moat is seriously trying to buy the club why has he not made any communication to the outside world, a few glimmers of hope to the fans that he’s serious and doing all he can to get the deal completed asap.

The statement released states the club are dealing with him so what’s to stop him making any statements of his own. The NDA is to stop him talking about the financial details and accounts of the club/sale.

If it was me, a Geordie fan hoping to buy his hometown club must be a dream come true. He must be great a poker if he’s this good at giving nothing away.

It’s just all too fishy that he has not uttered a single word.

well, can’t say i’m surprised at this move, Campbell has always followed the money, and Notts County are mad for offering him that sort of money to play in League Two.

Doesn’t matter how rich they are, but a 34/35 year old, injury prone central defender won’t get you out of that league.

    Absolutely mental.

    Dear Ed,

Sol will have agreed a deal which allows him to take up coaching duties and prepares him for management one day. Plus he earns some nice wedge. It’s a no brainer for him, I’d say.

    Kind regards,

    Neil

Not being funny, as I don’t know whether you’re just a sad WUM or genuine in your beliefs, but actually I’m not interested in hearing about NEW bidders. As far as I can tell, to date we should be being taken over by the Sheikh Fanbase 410 Sheard Moat Freddy Shepherd Profitable McMahon Roberts Bill Gates DIChead Group – from Malaysia.
I just want to hear of one successful bid. Not more confusion.

Lambias is a born liar, he has been proved to be just that many times and he is at it again leaking this that and the other to selected journos, its one contradiction after another.
No deadline/new deadline/ NDA in force/no its not/Shearer best thing they ever did/Cant appoint him/two buyers have the cash etc, etc, blah blah blah.

So Sol has only gone to Notts County for the 40K a week. Dont you just hate it when that happens.

Of course thats not in any way similar to the likes of Duff, Cacapa, Geremi, Viduka, Owen, Barton, Smith, Guiterez, Xisco, Colocini all coming to Newcastle.
They didn’t do it for the money…. did they?
