Yes we know this all gets very tiresome, but news today that Alan Shearer is expected to make a dramatic return to Newcastle United this weekend as the new manager.
Alan Shearer – shock return? – we’ll see
The Daily Star, not really the paradigm of truth in reporting, says that Shearer wants to sign Cardiff’s £6M-rated born and bred Geordie striker, Michael Chopra, to mark his return as Newcastle manager.
Where do we get the money for that?
Of course Michael was at the club for many years through his youth, and no doubt that would be a good move for Newcastle, and Michael would walk back to Newcastle from Cardiff, if he got the offer, since he knows Alan very well, and of course he is a Newcastle fan.
Michael went to Gosforth High School, the same school the great Shearer attended as a youngster.
Michael has shown he is a prolific scorer in the Championship and already has 7 goals for Cardiff, who are on top of the Championship right now.
The news being reported is that Barry Moat will become chairman in the next 48 hours .
Owner Mike Ashley remains in overall charge, but will take a back seat as he puts his sale bid on hold for the rest of the season .
Moat has been unable to find £100M to buy the club, but apparently will run the club on a day-to-day basis, from Newcastle of course, with his first job to bring back Shearer.
Before we celebrate or otherwise, this story may not be true, however quite a few of our readers have suggested Moat and Ashley jointly run the club – and if this is true it’s a coup for Moat to get Alan back as manager, when all looked lost.
But then again – it may all be lost already.
Ashley would still own the club, but we can only hope that during the negotiations Moat and Ashley found they could work well together. What a concept that was.
We’ll see if this story id true but we’re not going to hold our breath.
