We mentioned this a few days ago but when you look at our unbalanced squad we have too many central midfielders.
Nicky Butt – may be on his way
And when you look at who we can cash in on, Nicky Butt shines out like a beacon.
While it would be good to keep Nicky because of his experience, our central midfield is packed with talent and experience, even without Butt.
We have Kevin Nolan, Alan Smith, Danny Guthrie, Joey Barton, Geremi and the fast rising 17 year-old Haris Vuckic, who scored two goals yesterday for a Newcastle team against am experienced Celtic side, behind closed doors at Benton (we lost 4-2).
The game could have been held to help weigh up some of our increasingly important youngsters and give them a tough game.
It’s also interesting that Bolton’s bid to take Kevin Nolan has been give the red light by Newcastle, and it’s not often that’s happened this summer.
A Newcastle spokesman said:
‘We have had no offers for Kevin Nolan and even if we had, he is going nowhere.”
And we also understand that several Premier League clubs having been offered the Newcastle skipper this last week.
We could get say £1M for Nicky and also offload a player close to £55K/week, and free up the wages to allow the club to bring in some players in other positions – like fullback, wingers, central defense and strikers – to have a more balanced squad.
It was good to hear we may bring in Gareth Bale on loan from Tottenham, who is currently injured of course, and news we are interested in another of Spurs’ young players, but we don;t know who.
There’s also news in the Journal today that we may also bring some players in on loan from Manchester City.
We sure hope so, because there’s still time to balance our squad, even though time is quickly running out, and we look like a man who is falling from 40 floors up and while passing the 5th floor says – so far so good.
To say time is of the essence would just be obvious – so we’ll not even say it.
