We Think Nicky Butt May Be On His Way

We mentioned this a few days ago but when you look at our unbalanced squad we have too many central midfielders.

nicky-butt-tjt

Nicky Butt – may be on his way

And when you look at who we can cash in on, Nicky Butt shines out like a beacon.

While it would be good to keep Nicky because of his experience, our central midfield is packed with talent and experience, even without Butt.

We have Kevin Nolan, Alan Smith, Danny Guthrie, Joey Barton, Geremi and the fast rising 17 year-old Haris Vuckic, who scored two goals yesterday for a Newcastle team against am experienced Celtic side, behind closed doors at Benton (we lost 4-2).

The game could have been held to help weigh up some of our increasingly important youngsters and give them a tough game.

It’s also interesting that Bolton’s bid to take Kevin Nolan has been give the red light by Newcastle, and it’s not often that’s happened this summer.

A Newcastle spokesman said:

‘We have had no offers for Kevin Nolan and even if we had, he is going nowhere.”

And we also understand that several Premier League clubs having been offered the Newcastle skipper this last week.

We could get say £1M for Nicky and also offload a player close to £55K/week, and free up the wages to allow the club to bring in some players in other positions – like fullback, wingers, central defense and strikers – to have a more balanced squad.

It was good to hear we may bring in Gareth Bale on loan from Tottenham, who is currently injured of course, and news we are interested in another of Spurs’ young players, but we don;t know who.

There’s also news in the Journal today that we may also bring some players in on loan from Manchester City.

We sure hope so, because there’s still time to balance our squad, even though time is quickly running out, and we look like a man who is falling from 40 floors up and while passing the 5th floor says – so far so good.

To say time is of the essence would just be obvious – so we’ll not even say it.

Comments welcome.

At last some good news and why sign Bale as he is injured?
And scratching around borrowing players, how low have we stooped, like Dave Whelan of Wigan said, Ashley has no class at all, no respect for anyone, absolute disgrace the way this club is being decimated.

Butt has underachieved on Tyneside by his MUFC standards, I agree it’s time let him go now Nolan and Smith are at last showing signs of waking up from last season’s stupor… we BADLY need more goals coming from midfield which Butt never really delivered. Smith alone needs to net at least 10 this season to be able to feel justified in picking up his wage packet.

Meanwhile the defence still looks inexperienced, vulnerable and unbalanced when faced with injury reshuffles, and it’s the lack of goals against that will secure promotion in the end. Hughton, more than any of us, knows this, and I’m sure his is pushing hard for the right players. I only hope MA is listening.

Butt and Barton BOTH MUST GO!

    Butt:
Age is showing, nice guy, decent player – had his day

    Barton:
potential is there, cannot control his temper, descraces himself every time he pulls on the shirt (and when he aint wearing it)

Too bad, a real professional, despite what the “know nothings” say, I believe a lot people go to games without any real understanding.
It`s like the clowns who used to criticise Shea,
“he hoofs it up the pitch”, etc.
Most of you should save your money, as you dont really understand whats happening.
Think about it why were Shay and Nicky automatic choices on the team sheet ?
However on saying that, if the club can reduce the wage level by £55k. per week and receive £1m. then I would have to say go for it, considering his age and the fact we should be rebuilding.
Though I am sorry to see him go, he was a good servant to the club.

Chuck – You’ve said this about Butt before, you mentioned his subtle saving tackles and passes that nobody noticed and giving away fouls that would’ve led to a goal otherwise.

What you didn’t mention was the stupid chipped passes he does which puts other players in danger, the wrong timing of tackles and passes which lead to the opposition getting the ball, but most importantly you forgot to mention the numerous free kicks and penalties he gives away which lead to goals against us. The trouble with Butt is he has a good footballing brain but his legs are a few seconds behind it now.

I suggest you start looking more closely at players chuck.

Geordie Gerrard – its still another clubs tat, players who are surplus to requirements or who need fitness or experience before returning to the bigger clubs leaving us with, yep, still no players of our own.
So are we now officially a training facility for other clubs?

Butt’s a good bloke but an obvious one to ship out to cut the wage bill.

Ed: PLEASE will you stop pretending that Tuesday represents any deadline for building the squad!!

We are NOT premiership, which means we have until NOVEMBER to get loan signings and frees, which is what we’re after!!

But never let logic get in the way of a good, panicky discussion, eh.

Don’t know where this Hate for Butt comes from… I was going to say yes we should sell him till I read some of the outlandish comments…

He has never been an explosive player and is one of those unsung heroes who get nothing but stick… Losing him would be a loss, he breaks the play up and keeps it simple, every team needs a player like that, it’s true his legs probably don’t carry him as far as they used to, and I would pick Guthrie and Nolan ahead of him, but I would not send him away so lightly, I remember Birmingham doing pretty well when he went there, so well we would not sell him…

he is probably a bit to expensive to keep on the bench with us being in the Championship though, so I wish him the best…

Barton Should never play for the club again, simple, he had far too many chances to make ammends and then has a bust up with the boss after getting sent off for a horrendous tackle, the sooner he leaves the sonner we can get another dark cloud lifted off our heads…

Lets not paint Butt with the same brush though, none of the squad performed last season, none of them!!! Smith is ok though cause he played a couple of good games in the Championship, lets get real, they all have to go if we get back in the Premiership and the Kids have to come through…

bigbadbob- do you not realise that loaning players is the best way to get out of this league, I mean no top class, first choice premiership players are gonna come 2 the championship, so we have to get chapmionship standard players, and i would rather loan them so that when we get back up we arent stuck with a group of championship standard players playing in the prem. once we’re up we start 2 buy better players again. Its not rocket science

Toon_Army – spot on with your opinions on both players.

I do not care if Barton becomes the new Pele (unlikely – he’s just not as good as some, for whatever reason, want him to be.) He is a liability and an embarrassment to the club. Why the hell we can’t fire him I don’t know.

Sack the lawyers that wrote his contract while we’re at it.

toon army- nicky butt does NOT keep it simple, he tries 50 yard beckham style passes, and lets face it, he cant pull them off. he miss times tackles and gives away a lot of free kicks, penalties and gets booked nearly every match he plays in!! he still has a top class footballing brain, and he know what hes doing, its just that his legs are 2 seconds behind his brain and it costs us goals and points in the end!!

Don’t get me wrong, i think Butt has been a good pro whilst he’s beem here and i he deserves credit for that.

But there comes a point when a player reaches an age where he becomes more of a liability than an asset, i’m afraid Butt is at that age now.

There’s no room for sentiment in football these days.

Ashleys biggest fear is promotion and the clamor to actually buy players and spend money, he has categorically stated he wont spend another penny on the club.
Thats not rocket science either mate.

Totally agree re: Barton and mostly agree re: Butt.

Regardless of our opinion of Butt the fact is he’s now behind a few in the CM priority and we simply cannot afford to pay his wages to warm the bench (much like a certain Geremi I could mention, oh I just did).

If he is approached by another club I’d be happy to let him leave for free just to free up his wages (which could pay for 2 or 3 CCC players).

I’d be more than happy to never see Barton anywhere near a Newcastle shirt for as long as I live. I don’t care that he’s a decent talent (not world class, average to above average premiership at best), I don’t care if he could run rings round the opposition, I don’t even care if he could guarantee us promotion. I feel (I can’t write what I’d like out of respect to Ed’s no swearing policy) that he represents everything that is wrong about the game today (him and Cashley Cole that is). He is just a moronic thug who can play football, when he’s on the pitch it’s just a matter of when he’ll lose it and lash out. Hate him with a passion. Rant over.
