Hughton Working Hard To Bring In New Players

It seems that Chris Hughton is working very hard on bringing in new players to the Newcastle club over this weekend.

Chris Hughton – working hard to strengthen squad

Chris told the Evening Chronicle today:

“The most important thing is the squad size.” “We have to make sure that come Tuesday we have a big enough squad.”

“As we are finding out at the moment, we are stretched.” “It would be fair to say we are stretched at centre-half if Steven Taylor or Fabricio Coloccini have any problems.”

“Up until this week the centre-forward position wasn’t such a big problem but now we have Shola, Andy Carroll and Xisco out.”  “The problem areas have to be up front and centre-back.”

But we are probably also short at full back since we have no real dedicated left back to challenge Jose Enrique. And probably need some wingers, but if Jonas stays, which now seems likely, we’re probably OK there – especially if we get Peter Lovenkrands in.

Certainly more loan signings coming in, like the quality of Danny Simpson, would be great.

The Evening Chronicle is reporting owner Mike Ashley is dealing with each transfer request from Chris one by one, on its individual merits before coming back to Chris with the answer.

Don’t forget last year with Ashley involved, we waited until the very last day of the transfer season on Monday, September 1st, and then we couldn’t close the deals.

Hughton said:

“I can say is that we want to be able to compete come Tuesday and we’ll do whatever it takes to do that.”

Hughton can also bring players in on loan after the window closes,s we pointed out earlier this week, with the Football League allowing emergency deals up until the fourth week of November.

We expect we would qualify for this – because the attempted sale has impacted our ability to bring in new players – do you think that will pass muster?  We think they will already have checked this out – we hope they have already checked this out.

It also looks like Chris will be in charge of the playing side of things for the foreseeable future,  unless something happens in the next few days on the sale.

Comments welcome.

    This is precisely why we won’t be sold!

    If we were gonna be sold they would know and Hughton would have been told.

    It seems like M.Ashley has been using the excuse of selling the club as a smoke screen for not buying players, if that is the case then Ashley has a serious problem with GREED.

    The same thing has been sinking in with me for the past few weeks. We won’t be sold before the end of the window and I don’t believe there was ever any intension of doing so.

    I expect a few loan signings and maybe a free transfer or two and that’s it. I also expect to see a couple of our first team players to leave before the window closes too – hopefully the likes of Butt and Geremi who simply don’t have the legs any more and are on top wages.

    Mike Ashley not selling the club doesn’t make any sense to me. If he wasn’t selling, all he would have to do is sell the expensive players and bring in some lesser players that would be acceptable, and able to mount a challenge in the league.

    The fact that nothing has happened suggests to me that the club is being sold so he isn’t bothered about in-comings or if he isn’t selling then he just doesn’t care where we end up.

    A very difficult one to call given Mike Ashley’s previous decisions.

    lets get this straight an emergence will be something that was not foreseen, when the transfer window was open, so we go to the football league and say we need a forward on loan as our 3 are injured, the football league will ask when were they injured, Ashley in august, football league well you should have replaced them during the transfer window like every one else, request rejected. Ashley well how were we to know this would happen, football league because it was obvious, and any case every one was telling you the squad was paper thin. i wonder if Ashley knows what an emergency is.

    I could just see us getting in loads of loans and end up fielding more than the 3 we are allowed and as such forfeiting those points and possibly more, a fine of even automatic demotion.

    We could lose Colo, Geremi, Butt and Xisco and ram the wage bill down further and add the likes of St Ledger (CB/RB/LB) , Whitbread (CB), Lovenkrands (CF/emergency LW), Vaughan (CF), Danny Rose (LM) and Josh Walker (DM/CB/RB/RM) and have a decent looking team with potential and experience nicely intertwined.

    But why would they do that?

    Bring in, that means Bosmans & loaners, there will be no money signings.
    RB= M. Voltz , decent young player.
    CF=Sibierski, toon favorite.
    Should also be looking at top four or five`s youngsters available on loans, cause there`s not going to be any cash available.
