Middlesbrough And Cardiff Both Lose, WBA Draw

Good news for Newcastle United today in the Championship.

nufc-crest

Would you believe it – both teams above Newcastle on goal difference today were beaten – Middlesbrough lost at Bristol City with a last minute winner from Nicky Maynard, which was his second goal in the game.

And Cardiff were beaten 2-0 at Doncaster Rovers.

Nicky scored his first for Bristol City on 63 minutes, but Middlesbrough came back to equalize with a penalty after 80 minutes by Adam Johnson, before Nicky’s injury time winner.

And that’s Middlebrough’s second defeat on the trot as the lost in the Carling Cup, as they went down 2-1 to Nottingham Forest 2-1 after extra time. They lost Robert Huth and Tuncay Sanli yesterday, when both signed for Stoke City for around £11M.

And Cardiff City, leaders before the games today were surprisingly beaten 2-0 at Doncaster Rovers, with both Rovers goals within the first 17 minutes.

Newcastle are now 4th, with WBA on top after they got a draw away to Sheffield United.

Now we need to win the game against Leicester, and we’ll be 2 points clear at the top.  We also expect another bumper 45,000 plus crowd from the Geordie supporters, because a win will have us top of the league before the International break.

A draw will also take us top – but we need the wins at home – draws are not good enough if we are to get that promotion. And the lads need to make up for just getting 7 league wins  last season.

Great opportunity for the players to provide some joy to the long-suffering Newcastle supporters on Monday night- and before then we may even sign some players – wouldn’t that be something.

But there we go again – getting carried away. 😀

And Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster kept a clean sheet for Norwich on his debut, as the Canaries had a good 2-0 win at Hartlepool United.

Comments welcome.

The Smoggies losin’ Tuncay and Huth could well be the best thing to happen to Newcastle this season. Short of somebody with cash buyin’ the club lol.

Lovenkrands would at least give us a bit of pace we’re desperate for like. All of our strikers seem to be on the taller side, and none of them are especially quick (I’m not bothering to mention Xisco here because by the looks of things he wont be getting a game and he’s injured.)
I havent seen enough of Vaughan to comment on whether he’d be a worthwhile loan signing, can anyone give me a bit more of an insight?..in saying that, with the size of our squad, pretty much any extra bodies would be welcome at the minute like.
Lets just hope Ranger comes into his on monday night and finds himself on the scoresheet for the first time. I’d take yet another scrappy 1 nowt win if im honest, would put us top and thats all that matters. Especially given the size of the squad and current injuries.

In other news, Arsenal have well and truly farked it up for themselves!

Typical, we get the oportunity to go top, and have no recognised strikers.
Time for a Smithy flash back. If not, then play S Tayls, as he likes to score goals.
What a pathetic state this club has gotten in to.
    🙁

I posted this earlier what do yous think?

I think well be taken over in the last few minutes of the window (man city style) I think it will go right down to the wire all three partys wanting the best deal. ( Moat, yanks and the fatman) and someone will give in.

We have to show winning attitude every game we play, just simple like that. As long as we get 3 points no matter other team result.

If fatman stays then aslong as we only lose 1 more high earner, and make 5 loan or free signings then we’ll be ok.

    I’ve missed that lunatic.

‘We’re black and white, sittin on top, doing alright. We’re black and white, Toon Army.’
Be nice to think we could sing this at approx 9.45 on Monda.

That would make a refreshing change.

Tino11 – agreed, as long as it isn’t Steven Taylor. If we don’t see our defence bolstered before the end of the window (unlikely) we’re going to see him bail out Colo (because he doesn’t get English football) or Kadar (because he’s young) time and again. Without him we’ll leak goals like a sodding sieve.

Ideally we’d flog Coloccini and bring in a solid, experienced defender or two and keep the change and extra wages.

I assume this is the same Bowburnmag as on Teamtalk? Good seeing the likes of you and Robby Bobson on here, good posters!

And no Hitman, I can’t see 5 players coming in. No point bringing in more than 4 loanees anyway, we can only play 3 at any one time anyway.

I’m guessing the story of us being restricted to loanees and free transfers is pretty accurate…

    Ha ha!!

Me thinks Chris houghton is up to a little mind games. Puts out the word that we have only Ranger as striker, everyone else injured blah blah blah! Leicester think they got us beat, but on monday we start with super stroller, as he is not so bad afterall!. Leics tremble with fear and super stroller wins the day. LOL
    😀

Hitman – I can see us bringing in 5 players, but only free or loans. To get promoted i think we need 2 players we would have to pay for and 3 loan or free players. I think we’d only have to spend 8 million at most but can’t see ashley doing it i’m afraid. If we only get the 5 free or loans then i think we will get in the play offs, if we bought 2 quality players and 3 loan/frees then i think we’d be pushing for automatic promotion.

Tino – dont forget this is NUFC. Every new player we BUY, ends up on the sick for 6 months after just one game. What will be so different this time?
