Newcastle’s paper-thin squad – it’s nine less than last season’s small squad for a season that has eight more league games in it – has been exposed by Wednesday night’s injuries to Shola Ameobi and Jonas Gutierrez.
Jonas Gutierrez – could be out 4 weeks
Both players are almost certainly out of Monday’s televised very important home game with Leicester City.
Xisco is also out with a groin injury so 18-year-old Nile Ranger as the club’s most senior recognised striker, and he has one start at Newcastle.
Hughton talked about Gutiérrez and Ameobi.
“It’s not confirmed yet that they’re out for a month,” “Shola has got a stress injury to a bone in his foot, Jonás has a hamstring injury.”
“Initially we thought it might be coming from his back, but certainly they’re both very doubtful for Monday.”
“I’ve said we’ve been fortunate with injuries, we haven’t had more than two players injured at the same time.”
“But we’re at the stage now where we’ve got more players on the treatment table and it’s very much going to stretch this squad.”
You have to give Chris some credit in taking every chance in an interview to point out our squad is just far too small.
But of course whether football management geniuses Ashley and Llambias are even listening – or even bothered – are good questions.
Since they never say anything we never know what they’re thinking.
Remember that bad communication always leads to a lack of affinity and a lack of reality – and that’s what’s happened.
We don’t like them (lack of affinity) and we don’t know what the are doing (lack of reality) – so it seems true doesn’t it? Hey these things you learn in business school really are true! 😀
Both Joey Barton and Nicky Butt are expected to be passed fit after foot injuries, but as we’ve pointed out many times we have too many central midfield players and should sell at least one – and either of these two are top of the list.
Nobody will take Joey which is why we half expect to see Butt leaving the club in the next 3 days.
Wonder what’s happening with the sale? Wonder if Mike is still selling.
These are little questions we find it amazing we’re still bringing up, since it’s exactly 13 weeks tonight at 9:30 pm that Mike said he was selling the club – again.
Oh well – we’re still top of the league on points – if not goal difference – and we’re proud of what the lads have been able to do this season – so far – under ridiculous circumstances, created by the owner.
Howay The Lads!!
