We said in the match preview that if Coloccini starts tonight he will be staying on Tyneside – well – guess what? He’s not even on the bench.
That probably means a deal’s in place for Coloccini to leave Tyneside – so maybe the Fenebahce story that he’ll be sold for 3M may be true after all.
That’s OK with us – as long as we bring in an experienced center-back to replace him – Matt Kilgallon from Sheffield United or Andy O’Brien from Bolton would both be good, as would Watford’s Mike Williamson.
And of course our own 19 year-old Tamas Kadar, who is on the bench tonight, is just waiting for his next chance.

Maybe it was Danny’s strong showing there last Wednesday that convinced Newcastle they could cash in on Coloccini.

Totally off topic but i was watching liverpool tv the other day and it was a match vs bolton. Kevin Nolan took all the throws and threw them miles into the box, surely a long thrower would be perfect for out tall strikers. Not pretty but worked for stoke last season!

Smithy again been class. He’s really starting to look like the smithy of old, distributing the ball well and putting in some crunching tackles, he’s canny in the air at times aswell.
Talking of canny in the air, dont think we can have any complaints with Ranger so far like. He looks a menace in the air, seems to stay up there forever and is latching onto alot of the balls put up towards him.
Geremi sorry to say it is poor, i understand the squad is thread bare and he’s an experienced head but if the game is going our way at around the hour mark i’d be introducing kazenga and letting him run at them.
Also, what was the crack with those two hand balls? The ref hasnt been very impressive thus far, both were obvious. Cant understand how the first wasnt given, the fella had his hands at head height and the ball clearly took a deflection, easy to see.

We have a real problem down the left. Out wide a player must either prefer the same foot, or have pace to burn but ideally both. There’s neither in any of our midfielders.
Kazenga or Vuckic need to make an appearance in the second half of Leicester will pick a gap and punish us for our wasteful possession. What we don’t want is Kinnear-itis and doing that in the 90-something minute.
Still not too bad for 5 central midfielders, 1 inexperienced striker and having 3 fullbacks in defence.

As for Coloccini I agree with Ed’s comments – if we ship him out and bring in a half decent young centreback with a bit of experience, assured at this level and the potential to be steady in the Premiership, I’d take that in a heartbeat. To be fair, even if Coloccini doesn’t go tonight shows that we need at least three good centrebacks, as well as the likes of Kadar etc.

Hopefully that has well and truly crushed anyone’s idea’s of Nile Ranger not being ready for first team action. That is one of the best debut’s you’ll see, he’s strong on the ball, his hold up play is outstanding, has a great first touch, he knows exactly whats going on around him and gives 110%. Fair play to him, that standing ovation was more than deserved.
Smith was also outstanding tonight, battled from start to finish and like i said at half time is really starting to look like the Smithy of old. Barton’s distribution was poor but he’ll probably be rusty to be fair. A fantastic goal from Guthrie also, we probably should have had one or two more had Nolan taken one of his two good chances. A good performance all round, top of the league by 2 points, good times.

Ranger was just magnificent.. He’s already twice as good as Shola and Carroll.
If he keeps progressing slowly with good coaching, and we don’t burn him out or put too much pressure on him, he could genuinely play at the very top level.
Who ever comes in simply must keep Hughton and Calderwoood at the club in senior positions..

…They ran & ran, played pretty good football, defense didn’t ever really look worried…Bit too much space in midfield…Ranger played a blinder, what a debut(home)…What a future that lad can have!..Enrique kicked ass, Harper, both Taylors, Simpson(top job out of position), Smith(capt’s job), Barton did well(1st game back), Nolan worried them, Guthrie(great goal), all played excellent games, Geremi put a couple of passes awry but did ok!..

Skunk-Enrique is incredibly quick. I hadnt realised but over the past few games you can see going forward he breezes past other fullbacks at times and alot of the time has the run on alot of wingers when they’re breaking forward. He gets infront of them quickly and is strong shielding the ball, think he’s ever improving. He does however have to work on his passing. Some of it is so slack at times, his crossing isnt bad its more just the simple passing around the field which lacks a bit of quality which is frustrating to watch

Ranger for me was man of the match, considering he hasn’t had much 1st team action he is looking very very good and i can see that boy scoring a few goals in the not to distant future.
right now we are top of the league lets follow it up in the next few days with either a takeover or ashley has a fatal heart attack, i would settle for either and would throw a party either way

I’m not bein silly or carried away but Ranger can be another true Centre Forward the last one England had was Shearer whatever ppl say. His strength and hold up play was amazing, him and a beckford type player together would terrify defences. He has the touch of a massuse where as Ameobi has the touch of a rapist. We still desperately need minimum of 4 players in. Absolute min, they’ll be no news on the takeover 2moz as i’ve said before but i’m hoping against hope a couple of loans/free agents. A message to any new owners though “there’s no romance without finance!”

All I can say so far was wow! That was a cracking game from Newcastle and in my eyes the hardest yet! Ranger was amazing, the whole midfield was great….apart from Geremi but defending he did his bit…and again the defence looked strong!
5 games, 1 goal let in its like a dream! I dunno what else to say, was sat in a pub full of leicester fans (5 leicester 2 newcastle) and they were “seriously your team is amazingly good, top half of premiership quality” and Ranger was actually getting cheered by Leicester fans!! Great night for us, fingers crossed no more sales/loans tomorrow and out and out wingers in!!

So now we just wait and see what tomorrow brings. BIG day for the club. A few decent signings, even on loan, along with a few bodies and we’ll have the squad to keep this run going.

Rod-im in the same boat that i think he needs to play as often as possible. I’ve defended him since the day he turned up, couldn’t ever understand people saying they wanted rid of him because he was apparently “crap”. All he needs to do is work on his “everyday” passing if you will, the simple stuff, moving the ball quickly from a to b. He will end up being very good going forward i reckon. We’ve seen glimmers of it when he’s played behind Jonas, they understand each other well by the looks of things. He’s said himself he plays with the mentality of any other spanish full back, he likes to go forward and im more than happy with him doing so. He’s a Spanish u-21 international, he just needs time mate.
