Lots a good comments here. Esp re Shearer. Thought I was only one thinking aye Shearer but not yet!
Roeder and Hughton similar circumstances interesting times. Think we all resigned to Ashley staying in control. Oh well lets get on withit!

For crying out loud, if that’s not gonna cheese Hughton right off, I can’t think what would. Given that he’s done a superb job under extremely difficult circumstances, HE’S PROVED HE’S GOT THE STAMINA and the temperament to do the job and has the respect of the players.

RESULTS LAST SEASON SHOWED THAT THAT DUO (Shearer & Dowie) WERE HARDLY SUCCESSFUL and one would like to think that Shearer’d be able to use Hughton’s talents to the advantage of the club and the pleasure of the fans.

2 Points (in bold) ….

1st with only 5 games played in the league and a further 39 to go thats hardly showing he has stamina is it?

2nd Unless you didnt notice Shearer was incharge of the teams last 8 games in what is widely regarded as one of the hardest leagues in the world. Hughton didnt exactly bring the results in when he was in charge in the premiership, and please lets not forget that the team Shearer took over was at rock bottom with regards to moral and self belief.

I agre with you that Hughton does deserve a job at SJP for a job well done should a permanent manager be installed but lets not start throwing dirt at Shearer & Dowie. If it wasn’t for Howard Webb chalking off a perfectly good goal we would still be in the premiership.

Will Hughton become to be the second Roeder !? I agree that we should keep him or promote him to be oue top head coach but we still need proper long-term manager.

stevep @18 et al, sorry guys but listening to the the radio commentary on 5 live, they were mentioned in the vein of Sheare and Dowie at the game….. trust yu’ll understand my reading based on the words and the context.

As far as upsetting the apple cart’s concerned, sure the players may have a lot of respect for Shearer but were he and Dowie t come in, park Hughton to one side and introduce new tactics etc, that may prove counter-productive.

As you’re all saying, it seems academic anyway.

But, what we do need, is a bit more firepower and defensive cover – if Hughton’s had no choice but to call on the younguns in such numbers at this stage of the season, what happens when we satrt picking up injuries and suspnesions?

Appreciate what MA’s doing and why but surely he must face up to the reality and the potential consequenses of selling anything that moves!

As I said on the other blog, I think the guys in charge have done a good job, however, the long term manager of NUFC has to be Shearer.

The Championship, as far as I have seen to date is no where near as daunting as the Premier League.

If we keep what we have and add about 5 or 6 more we should be able to get out of it at the first attempt.

Great striker as Shearer was I think he maybe played one season too many, and he was never going to get dropped, would like to listen to his vision for the Toon before Hughton gets the boot, at least Hughton has the players trying, didn’t see that in Shearer’s last game at Villa.

guys you simply forget one thing: SHEARER is a winner and he will want to make things right,,..he knows our mind (the FANS) he does it his own way…and he will be hurt that he didnt get us out of jail last season and even more determined to make it right…..and also : i remember last year and the year before when hughton was caretaker manager…..do you???????goals were flying in as it it was raining oh my word

He would have to take a pay cut if he went to Bolton, that’s for certain.

It’s rubbish anyway. He has been our best player this season. We need to keep him if we want a quick return to Prem.

erm….

So, this article. The one about Smith…

I’m worried about Smudger. He’s finally getting to show what he’s all about, but his wages must be a problem for the club. He’s one of very few high-earners I’d keep, but I’m worried that the harsh realities of life in the CCC may push him to the door.

I wonder if he’d take a pay cut?

If Ash remains in charge there is no way Al will be back at NUFC, he only took him on last year out of desperation. AS has too much power for MA’s liking and he’s seen what happens when you upset the locals. I still expect a couple of outgoing’s today and maybe a couple of loan/freebies heading in. I pray to god Enrique is not one of them.
