Newcastle Fail To Sign Matthew Kilgallon In Time

Things may look really bleak for Newcastle fans right now, but if we can get 5 loan signings  lined up that we can bring in, in 2 weeks time, things may be better than they appear right now.

Matt Kilgallon 2

Matt Kilgallon – failed to sign him today

It seems like Newcastle were after two signings today and they accomplished only one.

The one they didn’t do before the window closed was a deal to buy 25 year old Sheffield United center-back Matt Kilgallon, who we previewed a few days back and he looked a very good player.

We thought we were bidding around £2M for the player, which was probably too low.

The failure of Newcastle to reach a deal with Sheffield United for the player, was reported just before the transfer deadline closed – by Sky Sports.

Unless we now try to get this lad on loan, we’ll need to wait until January, but he still seems a good capture if we can get him.

But Chris Hughton has played his hand as to what he wanted to see now, and the club have not ensured we have a big enough squad for this season – not yet anyway.

We still have the opportunity of some loan signings we can bring in in2 weeks time, and we’ll have one game before that against Cardiff.

Hopefully we’ll have 3 strikers to choose from – Lovenkrands, Ranger and Carroll, but Ameobi and Gutierrez look likehey have long term injuries.

Here’s where we stand with the squad righ now:

Goalkeepers: Harper Krul Forster (on loan to Norwich until January)

Central Defense: Taylor S. Coloccini Kadar

Full Backs: Simpson Taylor R. Enrique Tozer

Wingers: Geremi Barton Gutierrez (long term injury) LuaLua Baheng Ferguson

Central Midfield: Nolan Butt Smith Guthrie Vuckic Donaldson

Strikers: Ameobi (long term injury) Lovenkrands Carroll Ranger

There’s 25 in that squad, not counting Forster.

When you look at that list – meant to be our first team squad – there’s a lot of youngsters in there.

We still need a left back and a central defender for the defense,  plus an experienced striker if only to fill in for Shola until he’s fit again.

Shola could well be out for a few months – so we could sign somebody on loan until January – 30 year-old Marlon Harewood would be good.

For central defender there was news this morning – but in the Sun – that we had signed Manchester United’s Northern Ireland International, 20 year-old center-back Craig Cathcart, on a season-long loan. His pedigree looks great and we may still get him on loan.

We were also linked with Manchester United’s 21 year-old Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson, but he’s a central midfielder, so that’s a puzzling one.

So the minimum, very minimum we need to fill out the squad are

1)  left back  2)  center-back  3)  experienced striker

If we can do this in two weeks time we’ll be a lot better of than we are now, but could still be short if we get injuries again like we’ve always had in the past.

Time to take those ice baths after each games and each training session, if the lads are not already doing that.

Comments welcome.

well what a future to look forward to with all these great signings we can look forward to that world famous manager mad man Joe, who will almost surely mean we can be promoted into league one well done Ashley what a world beating owner you are, you will go down in history as the man who developed negative promotion.

Would have been a great signing, but i dont honestly believe that we went in for him with any real conviction if we did go for him.
Like when we tried to sign michael johnson with about 2 hours left in january.

Cathcart seems like a good option for centre back then its time to pray to the gods for us to get lucky with injuries.

You’re always assertively optimistic, Ed. A while before last year’s window closed you said we needed about 6 in, and only 1 or 2 came in.

I’m just very pleased that we seem to have lost no one else of importance and got Lovenkrands in. Then if we can make, say, two loan signings (especially defense) that’ll be great! Five is very unlikely to happen.

I am glad that we’re forced to blood some of the kids early though. If we can get away with that, it could have good consequences.

Tozer is a centre back and Barton more of a centre midfielder than anything. Guthrie is more of a winger than Centre midfielder than Barton. Lovenkrands can play either wing or striker

I am reserving judgement until after the international break when we should potentially have two loan signings in. If not we will struggle, but Kilgallon is not the answer to our problems, there are better players who would cost less or could be available on loan.
The Smogs have been equally savaged by the transfer window, and West Brom have done nowt. Cardiff and Sheff Utd have similarly weak squads to us. If the Fat Knacker leaves soon then you never know, personally we need stability and then 2-3 loan signings.
Lets hope we can use the international break to get sorted. I’ll not hold my breath though.

What fine mess we have, chairman want’s shooting & his inapt people he employed.

Shola well nothing new about him been missing through injury, he spent more time in the sickbay than on the field.
Paper thin squad & now relying on the young one’s to help out; there’s nothing wrong with blooding some of them with the more experience one’s.
We are shouting out for centre half back & cover for left back & proven goal scorer along side of Ranger.
Money that has been wasted on the London Mafia & their buys & bringing in & paying compensation to buy out their contracts takes some believing .
Ashley should of disposed the persons responsible.
Just can’t believe only one in.

Don’t get me wrong here, i am a critic of Ashley wholeheartedly BUT i have been to the home matches this season and it really does not help when fans sing “you wanna go home, you wanna go home, you fat cockney ba2tard,you wanna go home” or words to them efffect lol. He may think “f..k them i’m buying nobody”.

Cant believe we couldnt spend just 5mil or so to get in a DC, a winger and full back.
That would have done us till January.
    MA is a right arsehole!
Oh, well, what else can we expect. The man has no brains…

Toon1978 Singing like that makes it more enjoyable for Ashley he enjoys it.

On a more positive note even Ashley cannot be stupid enough to bring Kinnear back when Hughton is doing such a good job with the tissue thin squad. Lets hope the return of Kinnear is the one part of the prediction I made at the end of last season that is wrong.

Could some one confirm im pretty sure you are only aloud to sign 3 players max on loan in one season we already have simpson and cathcart on the way so does that only leave one more possible loanee unless we can find any players without any clubs on freebies at the moment?

It seems like the best we can hope for now is to try and avoid any more injuries (which is unlikely) or, if they occur, try to salvage points whenever possible and just hold on until January. Hopefully the club will be sold by then

Ed… 5 loan signings?… Dont you think thats a bit much?. Furthermore i know that wont happen, and so should you, knowing MA as we do. Also i really wouldnt want it to… Seing young Nile the other day showed us what we need to do, which is mix our excelent youngsters with our veterans such as Harper, Smith, nolan and Butt… If we bring Donaldson. Lua Lua, Ranger, Kadar and maybe even Vuckic through right this season, we have a very good squad already.

If we got those three, we I’d have no doubt in my mind we’d be back up in the premiership next year.

all Fat Ashley needed to do was to spend max of £10m and we would have been nailed on to walk this league!!!!

    say we could have bought..

    Beckford £5m
    Kilgallon £3m

and the other £2m to spend on wages for Lovenkrands and two decent loan players (a left winger and an att midfielder)

I hope Ashley burns in hell!!!
