The Evening Chronicle is reporting that a player we really want – Danish ace Peter Lovenkrands – is set to return to Newcastle United this morning.
Peter Lovenkrands – he’s coming back – GREAT!
Since I’ve just got up over here in the US – 4:05 am – this is just great news so early – and the coffee tastes even better than usual – strange that. 😀
The Evening Chronicle has been spot on about Peter and reported the former Rangers star had been offered a deal back on August 18th.
And after mulling over a series of offers elsewhere, Lovenkrands will return to St James’ Park to help ease the injury situation in attack with Shola Ameobi and Andy Carroll both out.
And Birmingham manager Alex McLeish, who was manager of Rangers, when Peter was there earlier in his career, has told The Birmingham Mail this morning:
“Peter was a player we got to look at but because of our financial situation I couldn’t offer him a contract, we’re spent in terms of the budget,”
“But it was my intention to let him train with us for a few weeks, I think he’s a bit short of fitness, then we would have seen what had happened.”
“Once the takeover had gone through successfully, or even if it hadn’t, Peter might have showed up so well that I could have persuaded the club to have taken him on. < "But he had an offer from Newcastle on the table." /em>
We suppose he must have watched the game last night and who wouldn’t want to play for us after that fighting gutsy performance from the lads – and we also think his wife Teresa had something to do with it – because we understand she loved her time on Tyneside earlier this year.
As far as his fitness goes we expect him to be put on a program for 10 days, probably even starting today, with maybe some pre-arranged games in there – to get him some match practice before we take on Cardiff a week on Saturday.
As we saw from Danny Boy last night a piece of real class can win you games in the Championship.

Comment #81I will be LIVID if Smith goes to Bolton…never thought i would be saying those words, haha.
Here we Ngo…
Good points.
I would rather have Fran Merida on loan than Darren Gibson. Gibson just seems like one of the CM’s we already have in abundance. A box to box player. Merida is far more creative and has a touch of flair He can play both left and right midfield if needed, but is best when creating from the middle of the park.

Comment #82Darron Gibson is a very good attacking midfield player.
He has a good engine and scores goals.

Comment #83Can anyone put any substance to these smith to bolton rumours?
That would really hurt our side! Smith is a natural leader; we do not have many of those on the field

RE: the Smith rumour. Just to clarify, I didnt start it 🙂 I simply put it on here to see if anyone else had heard it. I hoped it wouldnt be true, although he’s on a high wage, Smudge is looking good so far and I’d like to see him keep it up.
All the talk of defenders and mids…I want to see a goalscoring striker signed – that doesnt inc Lovenkrands, as I see him as a support man.

Comment #88Hopefully this is true, Lovenkrands showed more fight and passion last year than the rest of the playes (except taylor and carroll).
I would also like to have Michael Ball, Hamuer Bouazza and a couple more loans. We should get shot of coloccini and butt as they are under peformers and high earners.
