Reports Newcastle Trying to Sign Marlon Harewood On Loan

Sky Sports is reporting that Hull City and Newcastle United are rivals to sign Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood on loan.

Marlin Harewood – Newcastle loan target

Hull have had a little trouble this summer in attracting players to the Yorkshire club, and manager Phil Brown failed in moves for Fraizer Campbell and Bobby Zamora.

We remember that Michael Owen was also a target before he joined Manchester United.

But the report that interests us is that Sky are saying Newcastle have identified the 30 year-old Harewood, who has gone down the piecking order at the Villa.

The 6’1″ Hampstead, London born striker, whose played at Nottingham Forest and West Ham United has 389 first class games over his career with 111 goals.

To be truthful we’re not too sure about Marlon, but we do need another experienced striker, and we suppose if we can tie him up on loan for the season, Newcastle would then be OK at striker.

It seems we are OK now in central defense, central midfield, and this would make us OK with strikers assuming Lovenkrands comes in on a free transfer.

We still need some full backs and wingers.

Comments welcome.

Harewood went on loan in the championship last season and he was horrendous.

He is quick and strong but cant control a ball, cant pass, cant shoot. Honestly he is one of the worst players i have seen.

The sort of player who would disrupt the togherness of the time. Always strolls around the pitch uninterested and all the villa fans i know think hes just awful.

Would rather have a young striker from prem on loan instead of an old “past it if he ever had it” on loan.

Way he must be doing something right with over 100 career goals.

I reckon he’d do a decent job for us – he’s better than Ameobi that’s for sure.

Harewood is infact a dog pile. I would be the first to hold my hand up if he was to prove a success, but theres more chance of shearer coming out of retirement to play for us.

a 39 year old Shearer would do a better job than Harewood.

Dunno why everyone gets so excited about Beckford – he’s a horrible, dirty player and we already have enough of them with that sh!tebacg Barton!

Welbeck is a donkey aswell. I especially dont want him because of the mental effect it will have on Ranger.

I’m pretty sure that if Harewood had been there in place of Nolan last we would have won by more than 1-0.

I’m not saying he’s great but he knows where the goal is, he’s strong, good in the air, a bit of pace, can hold the ball up and has bags of experience – if we can get him on loan for a year i don’t think he’d let anyone down.

And for the record it’s my understanding that he is fairly well liked at Villa Park – just doesn’t feature much.

And TT – he made only 5 appearances for Wolves last season.

erm.. guys, when actually can we all expect to see the final squad?
I’m tired already following all the rumours, n the fact that the news about the club being sold/or not did’nt even mentioned just shows how uncertain our club is.
When the deal is done, black n white, then only I’ll start thinking..

I wonder if there will be a last minute transfer window extension like last year? You know, so Ashley can complete the signings of Rooney, Kaka and Messi? 😀

If that cnut doesn’t even sanction one loan signing I want to see the bastard strung up.

haha nah its just that Beckford is an immense player, type of player we need at Toon. Pace, Goals, Something out of nothing kind of player. But it simply wouldn’t happen as Ashley won’t spend and it looks like we aren’t signing anyone in the next half an hour or so til the deadline. Then after that we’ll have to rely on Frees and loans which I expected anyway 🙁

He’s not disastrously bad, so long as we didn’t get too many like him.

It would be a case of having someone big and ugly up front to hopefully prod in or head in a few goals set up by more creative players. My West Ham supporting friend used to think he was not at all bad.

To be fair I really, really dont want Harewood. Get loven back and I’ll be over the moon; there’s no way he wouldn’t tear the championship up and with him, Ameobi, Carrol and Ranger I’d be more than content with our strike force for the season.
Just Bale on loan and some defensive cover and I’ll be very, very content indeed. At least until January.

Yeah Toonsy it has been pretty boring, all the big business done early on I guess. Krancjar to Tottenham’s the most exciting thing I’ve noticed, Spurs have got a seriously quality side these days. I like Levvy, he’s a generous owner and fairly shrewd for the most part. And Tom_Toon I agree with your statement about the negative mental affect Welbeck would have on Ranger, but I wouldn’t label one of United and England’s biggest prospects a donkey
