Sky Sports is reporting that Hull City and Newcastle United are rivals to sign Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood on loan.
Marlin Harewood – Newcastle loan target
Hull have had a little trouble this summer in attracting players to the Yorkshire club, and manager Phil Brown failed in moves for Fraizer Campbell and Bobby Zamora.
We remember that Michael Owen was also a target before he joined Manchester United.
But the report that interests us is that Sky are saying Newcastle have identified the 30 year-old Harewood, who has gone down the piecking order at the Villa.
The 6’1″ Hampstead, London born striker, whose played at Nottingham Forest and West Ham United has 389 first class games over his career with 111 goals.
To be truthful we’re not too sure about Marlon, but we do need another experienced striker, and we suppose if we can tie him up on loan for the season, Newcastle would then be OK at striker.
It seems we are OK now in central defense, central midfield, and this would make us OK with strikers assuming Lovenkrands comes in on a free transfer.
We still need some full backs and wingers.
Comments welcome.

Comment #97Well, there it is: a day of frantic wheeling and dealing, millions spent and the window’s now closed.
We owe our grateful thanks to our far-sighted owner who’s finger is and has been on the very pusle of Newcastle United.
Thank you Mr Ashley for a hugely successful day that will be remembered as the day that the club’s status is assured.
Newcastle United’s loyal and devoted supporters will remember not only this day but the 90 or so that preceded it!
Your memory will linger long among the black and white faithful.

That is a VERY strong side for the championship, if we get another CB in on Loan I can see us getting promotion.

Typical Newcastle under this ownership.
I can understand Ashley not wanting o put money in, but surely he has to know that you spend 6 – 7 million on 3 – 4 players to boost the numbers and you can get 10 times that back plus the original £100m when promoted. Unless of course a sale will go through before hand

Or you could tell Colo to piss off and play Simpson with S.Taylor in the centre, then let Ryan Taylor play right back, seeing as those two looked very good together the other night.

Comment #115See the clarification from the Football Leagues on loans: (From NUFC.com)
Standard loans can be for half a season or a full season. These can only be done during the two transfer windows (i.e. by the end of today or in January 2010).
Emergency loans can be done outside of the transfer window, but not after the fourth Thursday in November or March.
A club can have a maximum of four players under 23 and a further four over 23 on standard loan during the season. There is no limit on Emergency Loans.
However, only four players maximum can join one club from another during the season.
A maximum of five loan players can be named on a team sheet.
So we are F***ed.

No we need a centre back more than anything wings are in need but not emergency as we have Lovenkrands, Jonas, R Taylor Guthrie, Lua Lua that can play on wings. Lovenkrands on the left or upfront, Lua Lua either wing, Jonas either wing, R Taylor either wing aswell as full back and Guthrie on the right aswell as centre.
