Shola Ameobi Injury Is Long Term – Oh No!

September 1st, 2009 by Ed Harrison · 71 Comments

Really bad news regarding in-form local striker Shola Ameobi this morning.

shola ameobi 129886

Ameobi - we’ll not be seeing this for some time :(

Hughton told the Shields Gazette this morning.

“We’re still assessing Shola, but it’s not going to be a two or three-week job – it’s certainly going to be longer than that,”

“It’s a big blow for us because of how he started the season, and what a big player he is for us. We’re certainly very disappointed to lose him at this stage.”

That’s really bad news for the club and also Shola who has been in red hot form this season. Looks like we have Peter Lovenkrands coming in today, and we’d like to see one more striker coming in – maybe even on loan until January until Shola can recover.

And Argentine Winger Jonas Gutierrez has suffered a hamstring injury last Wednesday, and although he has traveled to Argentina, he will not be involved in their two World Cup qualifiers.

Hughton continued:

“Jonas will certainly not be involved in the national team.”

“As far as a timescale, you’re always a bit reluctant to have one, because you’d like to think you can bring them back before, but at the time he did it, we were looking at three weeks.”

Fabricio Coloccini is already with his international team-mates, and apparently Argentina invoked FIFA’s five-day rule when calling up the defender.

So it may well be true that he’s not being transferred since that was one of the reasons given for his exclusion last night from the squad, and we thought it was because he was perhaps leaving Newcastle.

Andy Carroll has a groin strain,  but could be back for our game at Cardiff City a week come Saturday – that’s good because this next league game will be yet another very tough game for the Magpies.

Comments welcome.

So does it look as though we are aiming for Lovenkrads, cathcart and Gibson today then? thats what the papers seem to be saying. can Gibson play on the wing?

    ————Harper————–
    Simpson–S.Taylor–Collo–Enrique
    Gibson–Smith(c)–Gutherie–Jonas
    ——-Ameobi—–Lovenkrads—–

Subs: Krul, Cathcart, R.Taylor, Kadar, Nolan, Barton, Lua Lua, Butt, Vuckic, Carroll, Ranger.

That would be a decent squad!

  • 2 lesh // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:12 PM

    Chopra?

  • 3 repo // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:12 PM

its a ploy for not to sell shola as i noticed every transfer window he’s injured..

I woudn’t put it past him playing in 2 weeks..

    its all a smokescreen

    Too many threads today!

  • 5 nufc1818 // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:18 PM

must say i did like d.simpson as CB with taylor
i think they linked up very well
and had a better understanding with harper

  • 6 Ed Harrison // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:18 PM

tdt – I think Gibson is central midfield only – but maybe he can play on the wing or at full back – which we need – but don’t think so.
But Chris also has central midfielders Barton, Guthrie and Smith currently all playing well and integrated together in the team – that’s just good coaching.

more threads than a tapeworm !!

Great performance from an 18 year old

Gutted RE the injuries like. The squad is painfully thin as it is and i wont be listening to a word David Craig has to say on SSN as he’s just as bad as the journo’s that write, we just have to sadly look at and listen to him instead.
Never one for the rumour mill but Bale’s name is being thrown around alot and we’re nowhere to be seen-would like him in on loan but cant see it happening. Pointless paying any attention to the Beckford chat cos we’ve got nee cash!

Its a shame and i know i shouldnt be moaning because we’re so thin as far as numbers go, but i think of the names we’ve been linked with, Loven is the only worthwhile entry. We”re stacked with CM’s RE Gibson, and i think Kadar is fine in the role Cathcart would take should he arrive. I think we’re desperate for a new pacey striker, wide men and cover at LB.

I see Sheffield Utd have signed a defender is that leaving the door open for Kilagallon to leave for Newcastle or Hull. Apparently we have put a £3m bid for him!

C3PO tells me Rodzilla appears to be barred from the blog, for some reason.

    AndyNUFC – Shut up mate.

  • 13 milburn // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:29 PM

Tino 97- Sheff U have signed a right back as Bromby gone to Leeds. Only have Kilgallon & Morgan as recognised CBs at club

  • 17 Johno Toon // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:32 PM

I would be more than happy with mclovin and another centre half coming in today , then get the yanks or whoever it is t buy us and gear up towards jan , as long as we are shouting distance for automatic promotipn by jan with a couple if signings we will be ok this season to go back up

  • 18 toonsy // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:32 PM

AndyNUFC – Because its bad enough for us so far without rumours from people “in the know”, nothing personal like.

  • 19 milburn // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:33 PM

Andy NUFC- why do Arsenal need him ? Vermaelen, Gallas, Djorou, senderos, Sylvestre, Song- can all play at Centre Half.

  • 20 toonsy // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:33 PM

Geremi to Real Madrid for 100 million, you heard it here first :D

  • 21 AndyNUFC // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:33 PM

Haha honestly, I understand people’s attitudes because of the amount of stirrers who come on here spouting rubbish, but people who have known i’ve been on here a while and don’t lie about stuff. If i’m wrong I hold my hands and say I was wrong, but just thought you lot would want to hear news like that.

  • 22 hitman // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:34 PM

andy you dont believe some muppet on talksport who says he saw taylor at arsenals training ground do you.

  • 23 R2-D2 // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:34 PM

C3PO tells me that’s rubbish, AndyNUFC

  • 24 milburn // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:35 PM

Andy NUC- Ok mate point taken but reveal your sources or is it the famous Daily Star “a source close to the player” ?

  • 25 AndyNUFC // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:35 PM

Ah toonsy I don’t for one minute pretend to be ‘in the know’, i’m simply not, just heard it off someone who never usually rings me just to tell me stuff like that, so he must have heard it somewhere credible.

  • 26 Mikey25 // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:36 PM

I still think we should be putting a cheeky bid in for Beckford!! Have we got those loan signings from Manure cos some stories say yes others say no??

  • 27 toonsy // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:37 PM

AndyNUFC – I just hope your mate is wrong! Sadly nowt surprises me about Newcastle!

Nope nothing like that, my dad told me and he’s got some mates who are quite in the know about football, being a proper football person himself, i’ve just text him now asking where he heard it.

  • 31 AndyNUFC // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:39 PM

Ah he just said he heard it on talk sport, nevermind then lads… Still though that bloke could be telling the truth! I wouldn’t be surprised, this is Newcastle.

  • 32 Tal_nufc4eva // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:41 PM

bet you guys didnt know that we are signin lovenkrands on a 3 year deal and signin up to 3 loan signings which hav sed to be kilgallon, gibson and maybe cathcart but they are saying that cathcart may be a permanent signing. fingers crossed :) .

  • 33 AndyNUFC // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:42 PM

Cheers for the news Tal… We still need another winger/striker though! and why couldn’t we have signed these players earlier?

  • 34 Mikey25 // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:42 PM

We do have cash just MA being a tight bugger! We must have a few mil from our sales too! Last minute takover from the Americans then a 4.59 signing of Messi and Ribery would do for me!

  • 35 toonsy // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:43 PM

Tal – Sheff Utd wont loan Kilgallon, especially not to potential promotion rivals.

Mikey-where do we get the cash for Beckford? We dont have 4mil to spend mate

    ————–

how exactly do you know we have no money? we have sold £25million worth of players so we do have money, its just that our owner wont invest it in the squad!!

  • 37 toonsy // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:44 PM

Mikey25 – Haha, that would be quality lol! Ribery has been seen at Manchester airport, maybe flights to Newcastle were fully booked and he is getting helicoptered up to us :D

  • 38 AndyNUFC // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:44 PM

Haha well to be honest this last day of the transfer window is about just as depressing as the last 2 months have been, I’m ridiculously close to giving up on NUFC until a new owner comes in.

funny isint it , last year carroll could’nt get a game, everybody wanted shola to go to any body who would have him,now they are both out and panic has set in again, crisis again, that just shows you the mess we are still in.shola has never really got going the last few years , carroll, how many goals has he scored?Ishake my head in despair, great we are top of the league , BUTfor how long?we have to sign at least 2 players today, if not you will see a graduall slide down that table, then at best a play off place ,if we can keep on scrapping for points .dont let that league table fool you, we are in trouble

  • 47 Ashley Hole // Sep 1, 2009 at 1:52 PM

    From the beeb:
“Rumours in Hull that they will replace Michael Turner with Phillippe Senderos and then Arsene Wenger will sign Newcastle’s Steven Taylor after he had scouts watching him.”

    followed by

“I’ve just heard that Arsenal will make a bid for Fulham’s Brede Hangeland, before offloading Phillippe Senderos to Hull to replace Michael Turner.”

So i can’t see Steven Taylor leaving.

  • 64 jettson1971 // Sep 1, 2009 at 2:10 PM

we are in trouble, yes we top of league, but we dont have a 25 goal a season striker, this league is all about goalscorers, we havnt any to speak of! thats the worry, only 8 goals in 5 games, we need goals, cant rely on clean sheets every game, after all this is ncle remember!must get in my view a minimum of 5 players today, lovenkrands plus another striker, Kevin philips maybe??? beckford would be ideal but cant see that – massive game at cardiff now, big statement if we can win it, points rather than performances in this league!!

  • 65 ...nothing to say. // Sep 1, 2009 at 2:13 PM

“only 8 goals in 5 games, we need goals”

“points rather than performances in this league!!”

DID i say before last match that Ameobi’s injury was longer than the 4 weeks the medical staff told us, and that was “a minor knock” a few days before that?

Again it’s a long time injury that the clubs medical staff think is minor. As with Ameobi several times before. As with Viduka. As with Smith. As with Nacho. As with Martins, who was told he just needed a quick operation when he visited an external doctor after being out for a month with a “minor” injury. And these are just the examples i remember as i write.

Just how crap are the club doctors? Get them out and I’ll bet you we’re gonna have a lot less injury weeks in total!

  • 71 Geordiedoonsooth // Sep 1, 2009 at 4:24 PM

16:24 & the Toon have signed no one, good news is they haven’t sold anyone either. Fat Ash seems to be really inetent on ruining the club. I hope I see him in the street the fat tw*t I’d punch his lights out.
