Chris Hughton Hopes For New Loan Deals Next Tuesday

Chris Hughton has explained the loan system and what Newcastle’s plans are in the next week or so.

Chris Hughton – loan plans in place

Chris Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“In five days’ time we hope to bring in loan signings.” “These will be initial one- month loan deals that could be extended to three months.”

“We made moves on Tuesday and they didn’t work.” “But most importantly for me we didn’t lose anybody else.”  “As the deadline approached I was aware that we were unlikely to – but you never know.”

“Therefore I was very glad when that time passed, like most other people in my position would have been too.”

Newcastle tried but couldn’t close an outright £1.75M deal on Tuesday, for  Manchester United’s Belfast-born defender Craig Cathcart.

Hughton talked about Craig:

“He was a player that was on our minds.” “Unfortunately we were unable to do business.”

“And no agreement has been made.”

There are reports Newcastle may go back for Craig on a loan deal, but we don’t know if that’s true now, given what Chris says in that last line.

But Hughton is still hopeful of bringing in 30-year-old Marlon Harewood to Tyneside, who is looking for another club, Aston Villa.

Chris talkedd abot Marlon:

Marlon was one of the numerous names we looked at.” “Again we were unable to do business.”

“We know where we are when it comes to the areas we are short of.” “And in five days’ time we will see exactly who we can bring in.”

“There isn’t anybody we can rule in at this stage, but certainly we have some big decisions to make.”

So it seems that next Tuesday is when the loan market opens up and lasts through the end of November, and if  Newcastle can immediately announce 3  good loan signings, that would be great and certainly lift the spirits of Newcastle fans and players alike.

And we’ll still have 10 weeks to make more loan signings if we need to.

Comments welcome.

These initial one- month loan deals that could be extended to three months, might just be a way of exploiting the ’emergency’ of the loan.

we should only bring these type of players in when we have to, we should go for players that we have a chance to purchase when we get promoted, but i suppose some players will come in just to get body’s through the door. we do not want anyone that just fill up the treatment table, lets hope we do our homework, no more Owens.

I mentioned it before, but I’d love to see us get Solano one more time.

He’s at Universitario de Deportes and 34, coming up to 35 in December but he’d be great for a year’s contract with us again, and then move into the coaching squad. In fact he could help with the coaching right now because he might only play 15 or 20 games, but would still be useful for us and is a great character. His game is the type that means age is not so important. He’d be good cover for right back, at least in the Championship.
Okay, it’s not the way forward to employ over-age players but a very experienced head amongst a lot of youngsters in the squad couldn’t hurt. Hell, how long did Maldini play beyond 34?!

I know he left us for family reasons, but he must be further away from his kids than ever right now.

Just a thought! An irrelevant one because it won’t happen though.

He seems (rightly) to be happier at not losing any more players than getting more in.
I reckon the squad we have will get us to January no problem. Of course probably nothing new will happen then unless we have new owners. Still one step at a time!!

But Prem, that’s the way it is and I’m sure that like many supporters, you’ll share the wish that we just get out of this league PDQ and more importantly, have a sensible strategy for surviving in the top tier and not become a Yo-Yo club.

One step at a time’s called for

    Lallana (southampton)
    Beckford (leeds)
    Martin Taylor (Birmingham)
    Nicky Shorey (Aston Villa)

apart from the current set of young player, we do not seem to have a lot behind them, we need to re engage Ashley’s policy of hunting the best young talent, but they should be kept apart from the first team, then you don’t get the conflict with the manager, this is the one success that Mike Ashley had, if he had of just had him answering to the manager. it works for arsenal so its good enough for us

    We need WINGERS!!

We were so one-dimensional against Leicester, and that kind of play leads to tougher games, more injuries and more suspensions.

With Jonas out, we haven’t got a single quick, experienced, winger. Not one.

i hope we bring in cathcart and harewood they would certainly add number to the squad . If Cathcart comes we should try to put in an option to buy after the loan deal finishes . I have also read that lucas Niel is now a free agent , we should try to get him in . Would be a great accuasition with all his expirence he would help the young defenders alot

we do have lovenkrands now who tbh, is probably better than jonas in terms of end product and goals.

Not heard much about cathcart tbh but i trust that if hes at Man Utd….Hes gona be at least half decent!!

A loan deal is a good option.

Harewood, im not his biggest fan and neither are most of you reading this but what i can say is that he gives 100% and i persoanlly think hell fall into the Ameobi level or above. Ive always looked at Harewood as a Top championship player and a semi decent Prem striker.

Why do people care about next year in the Prem? We are in the championship now. We need players that could work for us NOW. Yes the options to buy if there really good ofcourse. but that wouldnt be a priority for me. Look at most players that come from the Champ into the Prem…they cant cut it.

For me it would be loans again for them players unless they have been outstanding…Then i would be looking to buy em.

Would be happy with the hare and cathcart though. Adds numbers to the thin squad and in the TWO positions we are weakest in.

And as for the lad who said we have no pacy wingers now that Jonas is out..You forgetting that we just got Mclovin back? he can play there and im damn sure hes faster than jonas and just as skillfull.

I wouldnt worry lads, this breaks come at a good time for the players to get some rest and get ready for Cardiff which will be a VERY VERY tough game, Make no mistake about it.

    Howay the lads

    Oh and CH for MOM.

    Smudge for POM

    Both have been excellant.

Premier is a stinking smug mackem for those who havent cottoned on yet, comes on now and again with little barbs and little in the way of football debate. How sad, have your massive club not got a fans blog or just feeling left out of some good old fashioned craic. Tosspot.

We should go for Cathcart on loan.
I also think we should look in to the possibility to bring in Dos Santos on loan. He would be great as he would bring back the flair to St.James’! I don’t like the name Harewood because he’s to similar to ameobi,Carroll and Ranger in style of play. I think we should rather bring in a fox like Smolarek on loan!

“Prem” – post 4 – that’s a poor point old chap. The best signings can often be “cast offs”, whereas signings that excite fans often go on to disappoint.
