Chris Hughton has explained the loan system and what Newcastle’s plans are in the next week or so.
Chris Hughton – loan plans in place
Chris Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:
“In five days’ time we hope to bring in loan signings.” “These will be initial one- month loan deals that could be extended to three months.”
“We made moves on Tuesday and they didn’t work.” “But most importantly for me we didn’t lose anybody else.” “As the deadline approached I was aware that we were unlikely to – but you never know.”
“Therefore I was very glad when that time passed, like most other people in my position would have been too.”
Newcastle tried but couldn’t close an outright £1.75M deal on Tuesday, for Manchester United’s Belfast-born defender Craig Cathcart.
Hughton talked about Craig:
“He was a player that was on our minds.” “Unfortunately we were unable to do business.”
“And no agreement has been made.”
There are reports Newcastle may go back for Craig on a loan deal, but we don’t know if that’s true now, given what Chris says in that last line.
But Hughton is still hopeful of bringing in 30-year-old Marlon Harewood to Tyneside, who is looking for another club, Aston Villa.
Chris talkedd abot Marlon:
Marlon was one of the numerous names we looked at.” “Again we were unable to do business.”
“We know where we are when it comes to the areas we are short of.” “And in five days’ time we will see exactly who we can bring in.”
“There isn’t anybody we can rule in at this stage, but certainly we have some big decisions to make.”
So it seems that next Tuesday is when the loan market opens up and lasts through the end of November, and if Newcastle can immediately announce 3 good loan signings, that would be great and certainly lift the spirits of Newcastle fans and players alike.
And we’ll still have 10 weeks to make more loan signings if we need to.
