Newcastle United players Fabricio Coloccini and Geremi will be in World Cup qualifying action during the coming week.
Fabricio Coloccini – in action for Brazil
Diego Maradona’s Argentina face a big big game with their long-term rivals Brazil in Rosario on Saturday and then they go to Asuncion to take on Paraguay on Wednesday. Jonas Gutierrez ia also in the squad but is injured and will not play.
And Newcastle midfielder Geremi, who is still only 30, is part of the Cameroon squad which faces Gabon in a double header. Geremi already has 103 caps for Cameroon to date.
Both Nile Ranger and Ryan Donaldson are in the England U19 squad to face Russia in a friendly match at Shrewsbury.
It’s good to now have Ryan at the U19 level, although the local forward has already played at the England at U17 level. He has been singled out by manager Hughton as one who could play a part for Newcastle this season.
Tim Krul and Shane Ferguson are in Under-21 Euro Qualifier action for Holland and Northern Ireland respectively, and we’re a little puzzled why left-winger Shane hasn’tet ybeen move into the full first team squad on Tyneside.
We hope all our players do well and also come back with no injuries.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1We have to be breaking records here surely, seven players called into international duty and with such high attendances? And still in the championship.

Comment #8God I hope non of these players come back injured because starting next Sunday we have a period of 7 games all 3 0r 4 days after the last.
We need to keep as many players fit as posible and by the next international break (the first half of October) we may well be struggling to field a decent team.
Lets hope some Argentinian nurse is working miracles on Jonas’s leg and we get Harewood and Cathcart on loan as soon as possible.

Comment #9I think by the time the next international break comes along we will have a lot clearer picture of how our season will end up, whether we will continue challenging or fade away.

Comment #10the best way to look at it is the other teams will have the same problems as us, and although might have a bigger squad, made up of lower quality still, as we are playing a game of chicken, when you are on top things don’t hurt quite as much.

Comment #12we have one of if not the smallest, but hopefully the highest quality, with the fans behind them, hopefully we will reach our goal & be champs. i don’t want play offs i’m not fit enough for that.

Comment #13My main concern is that, fully fit, our starting 11 is better than most in this league, however if we start getting injuries to key players, dropping points and end up not going up then we will lose them players come next season. How many will fancy another season in the championship? I fear its this season or not for a while in the promotion stakes.

Comment #14i can remember one game in the old second , it was a night game in the winter, i think it could have been Brighton, we were playing awfully, we all started jumping up & down on the spot to warm up, someone started making a stupid noise, & spontaneously everyone followed suit. the player must have thought we were singing. & all of a sudden they started to play better, and we ended up winning the game 4-1 i think. that night on tv it looked on the telly like we were singing, and the atmosphere was electric for a dump of a ground with 2 open ends.

Comment #21Only time will tell if we are still challenging come christmas but at least we made the best possible start to the season and there is a new togetherness to the squad now the mercinaries have been weeded out. It shouldnt be impossible to go to Cardiff and get at least a draw.

when you say we where playing brighton, when was that because brighton has never had a ground with 2 open ends to my memory unless it was the very early days at the withdean stadium, but it must of been the first 4 or 5 games there as they put stands up after that

Comment #28So Gutierrez is flying 6886 Miles to argentina not play then fly 6886 back sounds good treatment for an injured player, i know under FIFA rules Newcastle cant prevent him going it just seems a lack of common sense on Argentina’s part.

Comment #31Seems Ed is being influenced by some clueless Americans who thinks Brazil and Argentina are all the same piece of land in a continent they just care about when it really interest them.
Thankfully, it’s not like that, and the American people is still to learn a big lesson. They’re not what they think they are.
Anyway, I shouldn’t be saying this, but some things just cannot go unnoticed, cause it indeed bothers me.

I live in Rio de Janeiro, in the neighborhood of Copacabana.
I don’t know how will it be when I go to England in the near future, but I can assure you you’d be warmly welcomed here.
By the way I sometimes meet some Geordies in the Irish Pub in Ipanema, when I go there to see Newcastle’s matches. The last time I remember was against Aston Villa – sad day 🙁 – and I met a guy from Newcastle married with a Brazilian women, who even said Brazilians drink a lot of beer, but that I could have no idea how the Geordies do just even more than us. I have also already knew some other guys from there, including some Brentford and Bristol supporters whatsoever.
Visiting Brazil is certainly a special experience, not matter what people say. And don’t gamble on the image people sell of us, I can assure you we are just as polite as any American person.

Comment #38dave 1961 – I don’t remember ever beating Brighton like that in the ’90s but I do remember grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory getting beaten 3-2 at home off Oxford, then next year doing the same at home to Charlton and gettin humped 4-0 down at Roots Hall off Southend.
Things have been worse, it’s fair to say.

Thank you for comparing us to the paradigm of politeness, though 🙂
perhaps I misunderstood what you were saying earlier, but I came across like a gross generalization. I apologize if I misunderstood, but I promise you that Americans do indeed know the difference between Argentina and its Portuguese speaking neighbor. I actually have friends from BOTH countries and have great respect for them. Anyway, this aint the place for animosity (unless there’s mackems involved lol)
