Craig Cathcart has been in talks with Newcastle, but on Tuesday his proposed move to the famous Tyneside club, broke down.
Craig Cathcart – did he fail Newcastle medical?
The Journal is reporting today that he failed the medical, but how can that be?
However, that’s even more reason that a loan deal could still be an option, and if plays well – maybe he can be signed in the summer, but we’d love to know if and why he failed his medical.
The Belfast-born 20 year-old is determined to put his transfer deadline day disappointment behind him, and help Northern Ireland Under-21s do well, as they start their European Championship qualifying campaign.
Cathcart was due to train yesterday, before the away match against the Czech Republic, after linking up with the squad on Wednesday.
Northern Ireland U-21 manager Steve Beaglehole said:
“Craig has not trained for the last couple of days and it is important we get him in the right frame of mind.”
“He is an experienced player for us as he has played in the Coca-Cola Championship week in, week out.”
“He is fit to play as far I am concerned, and I know he just wants a good blow-out.”
It seems that Steve thinks Craig has had a disappointment this week with Newcastle, so a failed medical could explain that.
It will be good news if we see this boy is announced as a loan signing next Tuesday, and we think he will like it on Tyneside.

Comment #11a medical dosent cover injuries.. when has a slight injury ever stopped a player moving?
medicals cover things like heart rate, stroke volume, BMI, general internal fitness and not physicl injuries.
players with big injuries dont realy affect a medical but the reason the players dont move is because it is pointess paying for assets that cant be played for a number of months.
