Newcastle manager Chris Hughton was singing the praises of one our top players so far this season – Kevin Nolan.
Kevin Nolan – a leader at Newcastle club
Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:
“Kevin has contributed so much for us so far this season.” “He’s the sort of player who can drive us on this season and hopefully take us to where we want to go.”
“He’s been a big player for us. I have to say he’s one of a few players who have done a job.” “He’s scoring goals and getting into those positions that cause defences a problem.”
“I am delighted with that sort of performance – especially in this division.”
Nolan was brought into the team last January from Bolton, and most Geordie fans a that time though he was just the player to save us from relegation.
But his form last season was patchy at best, like a lot of our other players.
But this season he is coming right back into his old Bolton form, and has often played as an emergency striker, and already has 2 goals to his credit.
Nolan has done a good job to help the club out during the injuries to Andy Carroll and Shola Ameobi.
Chris added:
“It gives us something extra. Kevin’s attitude can rub off on our midfielders and that has been the case with Danny Guthrie, who has also scored a couple of goals.”
“That’s a great contribution from our midfield so far.” “Hopefully we can keep that up.”
Given the lack of fight and spirit this year in the Premier League by Newcastle, which resulted in relegation, there were some doubts as to how a number of our players would fare in the second division of English football.
But players like Harper, Taylor S., Enrique, Smith, Ameobi as well as Kevin have shown they can and will fight in every game to get the Newcastle club back in the Premier League at the first attempt.
And the legendary Newcastle fans have quickly shown they are more than willing to back a side who have fought tooth and nail in every game this season, and seem to be quickly restoring the pride on Tyneside.
The average home crowd in the league this season is a staggering 40,000, and it’s hard to think of too many clubs that would have this support after relegation.
Nolan has joined Alan Smith and Steven Taylor as one of the real leaders at the Newcastle club, and their performances so far during this so vital season, have been excellent.

Comment #5Internation break duldrums I suppose. Stuffing their faces with pies and pints no doubt.
I agree about the midfield. It’s good to see them banging in the goals. The big question is naturally going to be fitness. We know we have the talent to top the league. It will be interesting to see who else we get in on loan.
