Is David Healey Good Enough For Newcastle?

Newcastle seem certain to sing some new players this Tuesday when the Championship loan season opens and last until the end of November.

David Healy – Newcastle loan target?

Two of the players we expect to sign then are 30 year old striker Marlon Harewood from Aston Villa, and also  20 year-old Craig Cathcart, the 20 year Northern Ireland U21 International who played for Plymouth last season in the division  and looked impressive.

As far as the strikers are concerned, we are hearing other players that we may be interested in, such as Marlon King of Wigan and David Healy, currently at Sunderland.

The Northern Ireland striker has certainly been moving around, and while his goal scoring record is great for his country – 35 goals from 75 games – he has never really been able to replicate that form in club football, although he did score 44 goals in 138 games for Preston from 2000 until 2004.

Since moving to Sunderland from Fulham last year he’s made only the occasional appearance for the Black Cats, but of course he could be effective at the lower level for Newcastle.

But we’ve hardly ever seen this player have a good game when we’ve watched him.

However he did play for Northern Ireland in Poland yesterday, and he set up Kyle Lafferty for Northen Ireland’s goal in a 1-1 draw.

We assume King and Healy are back-up loan targets, in case something goes wrong with getting Marlon Harewood through the door on Tuesday.

Comments welcome.

    In a word NO!!!

Don’t see this great need to sign more strikers as it’s going to blunt the likes of Ranger developing on his great start.
    With:
    Ranger
    Lovenkrands
    Carroll,
    Shola,
    Baheng,
    Lua and Donaldson

why are we scraping the barrel with healy?

Of the 3 forwards mentioned i would only be happy with Harewood . The other 2 are no better than what we have already , then it would be better to give Baheng or Donaldson a chance . Harewood would be a great replacment for Shola and Carroll could learn a fair bit from him .

I agree with jim. Look at his record at NI lads, this lad can score goals he just needs to be in the right side & for whatever reason he hasn’t had it happen for him at Fulham or Sunderland. If we get a chance to get a stiker who is 2nd highest goal scorer in world cup qualifiers then why not? At the end of the day we need more players in & loans & free’s is the best we can hope for whilst the window is shut & fat boy is still here.

Does it matter what club somebody plays or has played for? If anybody can make the team perform even better, lets get them in

The only player i’d want assosciated with the mackems is Chopra who was at them briefly. If we have any ambition we’ll swallow our pride, open our cheque books, and realise Chopra is the fox in the box that we crave. He’s everything we wanted Owen to be but never became. His finishing is top draw.

We need another centre back, a left back and a winger on loan. That is definite.

Lads I have watched Healy from he started and to be honest I would love to see him get a chance at the Toon. He is a good hard working Pro that doesnt give you any bother and he hasnt been given a chance by the SMB’s even a few supporters said they liked him and thought he was treated badly by his club. I do know he needs a move badly to get some games, but i dont think its for the sake of his international career as I am sure the Norn Iron boss told him that he will allways be in his plans. He is worshipped over here lol but like most of the NI lads he is a decent fella.

I know theres not many to pick from but Woodgate was miles better than him even if he played only a handful of games for us

i really don t rate healy as the way out 4 us……neither do harewood or marlon king…….of the trio i would say that the most quality player is marlon king……….anyways if we buy any of them i hope it doesn t hinder the chances of ranger and vuckic coming through!!!!!i jus get the feeling that vuvkic is gonna be worldclass soon enuf!!!!

IMO “No” is the answer he will add our quantity but no quality. I think we should give this opportunity to our youngster like Ranger or Vuckic instead of Healy.

Here comes the “our youth are going to ride in on shiny white horses and save us brigade”.

Anyone who thinks that our youth players are up to scratch right now is deluded. They have only just begun on the road to being first teamers and still have very little experience of first team action, the match vs Huddersfield showed that perfectly.

Personally I would not like to see Marlon King in a Newcastle shirt.

I think Marlon will score goals, but he is one of the most frustrating players to watch – as he doesn’t link the play.

Also the fact that he has been in court and that he was kicked out of hull for a disagreement with Phil Brown doesn’t bode well.

I think Healy will be the model profession if he arrives and should score goals with confidence. Harewood is not a bad player and is the strongest of the 3.

Just read that Chelski have been sniffing around Vuckic. Tell you what, that ban couldn’t have come around at a better time. Anyway, if young Haris has any sense he will stay well clear of that sinking ship. Chelsea’s time has passed and i worry about their long term future. Not to mention they ruin the careers of young, promising players. Stay here Vuckic, where you will be appreciated.

we are really lucky to have Ranger and Vuckic a mean West Ham use Collison and Thompkins, they start week in, week out and do well enough and i would like to see if there good enough like Vuckic and Ranger seem to be, there old enough!

To be honest i think people ar emaking far too much fuss about our squad. A couple of loan signings and we are well prepared to last at least until January.

I think we will definitely be top 4 come January.

I’ll give you three great signings, Smolarek and Pamarot to bring great experience in a free transfer. And let’s get Bale on loan! they wouldn’t cost much and would sureley be useful in our squad.
