New Newcastle Players On Wage Cap To Aid Cash Flow

The People is reporting that Newcastle have slapped a £15K a week basic wage limit on all new players.

peter-lovenkrands-3200

Peter Lovenkrands – £750K a year plus appearance money

That’s apparently how much Danish striker Peter Lovenkrands accepted to return to Newcastle – plus £3K per game appearance money .

That’s all Newcastle would offer Sol Campbell, whose girlfriend lives in Newcastle, and he preferred to join Notts County for £2M/year over 5 years. Wonder how long it took him to make that decision?

Of course we still have a number of players on £60K a week, but they are on existing contracts which must be honored.

This is not at all surprising, since the club has to get a control of their cash-flow problems this season, with limited revenues coming in.

In fact if we are doing well in the league come January, we should attempt to buy some players at that time at decent fees, as preparation for the Premier League again.

We’ve noticed once you’re a Premier  League club,  the transfer fees asked start to be a little ridiculous – and that’s even for average players.

Comments welcome.

    The poor lamb.
Just how will he manage on 18 grand a week ?
Perhaps we should all have a whip round.
Peter Lovenkrands’ wage equates to £450 an hour, assuming he works a 40 hour week, which he will not !
AND he will be one of the ‘poorer paid’ players.

Probably the reason we didn’t do much in the transfer market. You have to ask why they get such obscene amounts, even 15K per week is way beyond the hopes of ordinary folk. And I know how people will respond to that question, it’s supply and demand, footballers have (potentially) a short shelf life, they are entertainers, Etc, etc.
But being a good (not even a great) footballer is like winning the lottery every week. I wonder what former stars like wor Jackie would make of it now, they were in many ways slave labour. I am all for a fair wage and freedom of choice but the present system is ridulous and in a way you have to applaud Ashley for trying to get some control. For whatever reasons he may have!!

15 k a week is a huge contract for a Championship team, however we are much bigger than championship teams (bigger identity, bigger fan base, bigger stadium)… Whats the bet we are still richer than Wigan, Stoke, Hull, Bolton, portsmouth etc..

Some of the players that have come out bleating about how much they care for the club, fans etc. etc. Should go straight to Ashley and asked to be put on 15 k a week ’til we get back in the premiership and then have their contracts renewed based on performances..

Indeed, how will they ever survive on half of what a hard working individual makes in half a year, weekly.

Newcastle have always re negotiated contracts on player who show they are worth it, but we should limit this to 35k when we get back, this will be easier if we re introduce Ashley’s police of searching for the best young player, this can only be done by someone working for the academy and keeping the manager in control of first team.

A few reasons why not to entertain Marlon King at Newcastle United.
    Courtesy of Wikipedia.

His career was nearly derailed in 2002 when he was given an eighteen month prison sentence for handling a stolen car. After an appeal, the sentence was reduced to five months and King returned to Gillingham’s team within two days of his release.

King’s time at Hull City was beset with controversy. On 12 November 2008, he was involved in a fracas with teammate Dean Windass in a casino in Scarborough. King was alleged to have headbutted Windass following an argument. Hull City stated that the matter had been dealt with internally, and both players remained with the club. Windass later described the incident as a “storm in a teacup”. On 5 December 2008, King was banned from driving for 56 days after being caught speeding at 106 miles per hour on a stretch of road with a speed limit of 60mph. On 10 December 2008, he was arrested on suspicion of punching a 20 year-old woman in the face in a Soho bar, causing a broken nose and split lip for which she was treated in hospital. He was later charged with sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. After several preliminary hearings he has plead not guilty to the charges and will be standing trial at Southwark Crown Court on 26 October 2009.

I don’t think Marlon King will be available to play on or after October 27th

He is another Joey Barton then , and 1 of that type at the club is bad , 2 of them would drag the name of NUFC through the mud again .

Arsenal operate a salary limit with the top players on 65k per week, Wenger simply moves on anyone who wants more and this works for the club.
Sad state of affairs when we had Owen on 140k and hes not, or has ever been, half as good as Fabregas, Van Persie and the like.
Also, i dont believe for one minute Hughton is pursuing any players, he will get what hes given by Lambias and thats it, same as the player sales.
The club definitely needs to re invent itself but that includes the board and management and a long term stable plan would help.

    Doocey;

“half of what a hard working individual makes in half a year”

Are you suggesting that anyone that doesn’t earn at least £60,000 per anum doesn’t work hard?
Our farm makes less than a third of that in a year and has to support 6 people and all so hard working people like you can go to tesco and get the cheap meat you obviously deserve for working so hard. You clueless idiot

Please God somebody tell us how to get rid of fat Ash

If Ash decides to stay the club will be lucky to get promoted as all our young players showing promise will be sold in Jan.

Every transfer window that fat T**t has owned the club its squad has become weaker.

Let’s not be fooled the team looks good because the league we are in is nowhere near as good as the premiership.

    I hope his next s**t is a pineapple………

You know what boils my pi$$, its the fact that these players say they have short careers, what about our poor servicemen & women who are 17-18yrs old, fighting a war on our behalf & getting paid a paultry £17k a YEAR, what is for some a very short life, as over 200 of them have died making sure these to$$ers get to play their football week in week out & then complain about not getting paid more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having served myself, when I read about how football players get paid £150k a week because they only play until they’re in their 30’s, big fraking wow!!! Some of our service men & women don’t live that long in a war situ, some as young as 18 don’t get to live until they’re in their 30’s, some don’t live as long as a week, some then come home missing limbs due to IED’s & get a paultry £48k comp, that a 3rd less than some of these premadonnas earn in a week!!!!

These p;ayers need to realise how damn lucky they are to be paid so much & not have to do anything for it except entertain us the fans on a weekly basis & even then, some of them can’t be bothered & want to move for more money!!!!

Sorry Ed, I just needed to get this off my chest!!!
