As we have mentioned a lot recently, all this talk of takeover at Newcastle, with nothing much new being reveled over the last 4 weeks or so, is all getting rather stale on Tyneside.
We’ve also realized that the only important thing this season is not the sale, but the team winning and putting themselves in a position to get promoted at the very first attempt.
And if they can do that the Geordie support will be there in full flow, as we’ve already seen.
Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:
“I can’t speak any more highly of the players.” “They’ve got used to daily reports that this or that will happen and then in reality, nothing happens.”
“What the players have done is get on with the job in hand. That’s been the important thing.”
“Amid everything that has gone on, they have focused on going into a new tough league that they didn’t know too much about and they have applied themselves to the task.”
The players and Chris have taken the lead on this – and Newcastle supporters will follow suit, because the only thing that’s important this season is promotion. The takeover talk is just a diversion from what’s really important.
If we have to do it with Ashley still owner all season, then we will because we’ve learned from last year that the only thing that matters is the results on the field.
With such a terrific start this season, what we have to do now is maintain it, and hope that Ashley’s sale of the club will not get in the way of the players’ morale or the results on the field.
But as time goes on it looks like we could really do it this season.
