Why Newcastle Still Need Four New Players In

With the hope we may bring some players in on loan tomorrow, we’ll take a leaf out of Jose Mourinho’s book, when he joined Chelsea, and see if our squad has two good players for every position.

jose enrique -100007751

Jose Enrique – has never had a back up pushing him

It seems that’s exactly what the good teams do, amd that’s how they can overcome injuries, when one of their players is injured somebody just as good comes in to replace them.

And with Chris and Colin bringing a lot of common sense back to St. James’ Park, it wouldn’t surprise us if this is exactly how they are looking at the squad.

Here are the first team squad of players we have right now, and how the players fit each position

CURRENT SQUAD

GOALKEEPERS

Steve Harper; Tim Krul

RIGHT BACK

Danny Simpson (on loan from Manchester United until Jan 1); Ryan Taylor; Ben Tozer;

LEFT BACK

Jose Enrique; Left Back needed

CENTRAL DEFENSE

Steven Taylor; Fabricio Coloccini; Tamas Kadar; Darren Lough; Callum Morris; Center back needed

RIGHT WING

Geremi; Kazenga LuaLua; Winger needed

LEFT WING

Jonas Gutierrez; Wesley Ngo Baheng

CENTRAL MIDFIELD

Nicky Butt; Kevin Nolan; Joey Barton; Danny Guthrie; Alan Smith; Ryan Donaldson; Haris Vuckic

STRIKERS

Peter Lovenkrands; Shola Ameobi; Andy Carroll; Nile Ranger; Striker Needed

——————————–

In bold are the players we think we need, and that’s based on just not having a back -up  or that we have youngsters there , but they are unproven because they are young.

Yes we know players like Tamas Kadar can play left back too, but this system is to get 2 players specifically fighting it out for each position.

It looks like we need a left back, center-back, winger and a striker – and if we can good players in on loan for these positions, we may have a decent squad.

And for striker we thought Marlon King or Marlon Harewood would be decent, but maybe David Healy would fit in better with our big strikers Ameobi, Carroll and Ranger.

It’s still a small squad but we also have some promising youngsters not listed, like the following, who can come in from the Youth Team and bolster the squad when they are needed:

Michael McCrudden (Northern Ireland U19), Patrick McLaughlin (Northern Ireland U19), Shane Ferguson (Northern IrelandI), Frank Wiaf Danquah. Brad Inman (Scotland U19) and Samuel Ameobi

17 year-old Ferguson has already played for the full Northern Ireland side, and is a very promising left winger.

Just for the record the first team players who left the club in the summer are:

Habib Beye
David Edgar
Sebastien Bassong
Claudio Cacapa
Nacho Gonzalez
Damien Duff
Michael Owen
Mark Viduka
Oba Martins
Xisco – out on loan to Racing Santandar

New players in

Danny Simpson – right back

We didn’t mention Pedter Lovenkrands had left, so we haven’t put him in as a new player. So that’s 10 out and just one in. 🙁

It may not be as bad as we had thought, but that depends largely on which loan signings are made in the next week, , hopefully starting tomorrow.

What are your ideas on this?  Let’s have them – comments very welcome.

Can Danny Simpson play LB? I though he could play across the back 4. My hope is that we get the Argies back and they dont go awol, we shall wait and see!

As far as I was aware I thought Tozer was a LB and Ngo Baheng was an AMF / F not a winger?

Lets see what loans we can get in, i think this is more than fine for this season as hope fully promotion will require yet more investment to get premiership players coming in and if we buy championship players then we are either stuck with a squad not good enough to compete in the EPL or we have to sell alot before we buy decent players. Loan away Mike, loan away.

Your right. Tozer is a left back, and Baheng is primarily a striker.

Habib Beye – big loss but getting on a bit
David Edgar – not first team
    Sebastien Bassong – BIG loss
Claudio Cacapa – not first team
    Nacho Gonzalez – hardly played
Damien Duff – bit of a loss but is very much losing his pace now
    Michael Owen – over priced
    Mark Viduka – hardly played
    Oba Martins – big loss
    Xisco – hardly played

We need players yes but in reality the squad is almost the same size due to the fact that we’ve trimmed out so many of the injured/not up to scratch players.

We need a CB, LB and 2 wingers(one for each side)

But not Marlon King – he’s due in Southwark Crown Court on 26th Oct (see wikipedia) charged with sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Can you think of just one reason why he may not fit in to the team at the moment?

Personally I think we’re sound if we get an EXPERIENCED centre back and EXPERIENCED striker. Wings are fine we have Lovenkrands who we played on the left, Jonas, Lualua and R Taylor both sides, Geremi and Guthrie on the right. R Taylor is probs the most versatile player in the squad as he can play anywhere on the sides (includes the “vital” left back position). 2 players and I’d be fine, otherwise if we get more than that I see us blooding other teams youngsters instead of our own.

Why dont we look at other Free Agents we should of had a look at Bouazza but he’s gone now. a player who is still a free agent is Euzebiusz (Ebi) Smolarek he is only 28 and is a striker could be worth a punt.

i agree with this 100% but what we need is an excellent 1st choice for each position and some hungry young player pushing them all the way this way we can control the wages, and provide excellent cover.

If I were CH/CC or a forthcoming manager I’d give a whole range of the ‘kids’ more sub appearances (half an hour here and there) – at any rate Tozer, Donaldson, Kadar, Ranger (or whole games in Ranger’s case)), Baheng, Inman, Lua Lua, Vuckic and Morris. Then if they’re needed their confidence when playing in the first team will aready have been boosted.

Smolarek defo like he’s experienced and if we give him a year with an option of another (incase injury prone) or pay as you play deal that be perfect. Smolarek & Volz on pay as you play deals and I’d say thats the signings! as we need to blood our youngsters and not other teams on loan ie Cathcart (he only played 30 or so games its no experience).

Yea i forgot about Voltz, im not sure if Ebi got injured while on loan last year at Bolton i dont remember hearing he was so a year deal with option of a second would be great for the club, also they defo should get voltz so experianced in premiership and championship and still quite young 🙂

According to Wikipedia Smolarek has 19 goals in 41 international appearances and can play on the wing, free agent too!!
