Whatever Happened To Newcastle’s Fitness Coaches?

We had often wondered what had happened to strength and conditioning coaches Mark Hulse and Robbie Elliott.

Robbie Elliott – helping out at Newcastle on part-time basis

It seems that Hulse, after working his notice at Newcastle, has now eventually joined Liverpool.

Quite honestly, the last we heard about this was back in June when on 23rd June we reported they had “moved on” according to a Newcastle insider.

That was a few days before pre-season and of course would have been very bad for the club, since the players were reporting back in a short 4 days after that.  However, that was a real low point for the club over the summer, and that’s saying something.

But the two of them were told in no uncertain terms they had to work their notice.

They apparently left the club on July 10th, and Simon Tweddle has since done the job on a temporary basis,  after working at the the club’s Youth Academy backroom team.

Hulse has only recently joined the Liverpool coaching staff, although local lad Robbie Elliott hasn’t.

And it seems that 35 year-old Robbie has now agreed to assist in the fitness department at Newcastle, but only on a casual basis, after taking on a job with American sportswear giants Nike.

If Shearer is ever appointed manager this season, look for Robbie to rejoin the coaching staff at the club, on a full time basis.

Not really fussed but prefer us to move away from accommodating old toon hero’s and move forwards without them.

Leave history in the past and keep moving on.

I’d venture to suggest that Hulse had had enough and took the opportunity, probably offered by liverpool (a tuppence-ha’penny club).

Of course, being on NUFC’s head-count and payroll, he’d be seen as more £s off the overhead without consideration of the impact of his departure.

Might we have here another example of Llambias’ short-sighted management?

    ……

You would think people would crawl over broken glass to come here and work with the legend/messiah/godlikefigure that is Alan Shearer the way some go on.

How are Argentina getting on after they appointed someone who was a great player for them and a hero figure btw?

Surely it must all be going well as they would want to do their best for such an idol? If they are not motivated to play for him then who could motivate them etc.

People spent all of last season moaning about our injuries, now they are moaning that the strength and conditioning coach who should be responsible for preventing them is leaving?

Rangerman – what experience in management did Kevin Keegan have before he joined us and another example is Pep Guardiola at Barca?
What they both have in common with Alan Shearer is an understanding of their beloved clubs and an affinity with the fans.
Its not the be all and end all but please dont rubbish it as its a valuable commodity.
Also, what about Roy Keane who was a novice and took the championship by storm?

Hughton is taking the championship by storm ffs, Keane spent around £80 million at Sunderland and quit with them just above the relegation zone so he’s not what I would call a good mnager.

We were not Keegan’s beloved club either, he’s from yorkshire, grew up supporting Wolves and spent more time at nearly all of his other clubs as a player than he did here.

Where was Shearer’s understanding of the club last season in the final 8 games? I don’t remember seeing how being a former player helped us with his multiple formation changes every game, dreary personality that failed to motivate the players and laughing and joking with the Liverpool fans when we were getting slaughtered on the pitch.

At least he’s local though eh?

Rangerman – respect your opinion but i dont think Hughton has the balls to be a manager, he is a yes man and perfect for Ashely.
Shearer got us a win against Boro and the players came out and said he was a breath of fresh air, he couldnt stop the slide though but you cant hold him responsible for last season or relegation, thats a cop out.
As for laughing at Liverpool, it was because their fans were taking the piss out of him, what did you want him to do, bubble his eyes out?
You dont have to like him but to many fans he is one of us and he deserves a chance.

Bigbadbob > You dont have to like him but to many fans he is one of us and he deserves a chance. you forgot to mention until he gets the chance no one else will get the time needed. I think the one main factor on Al side is we will get stability something the club has needed since SBR . Last year a few bloggers where going on that he should go get experience before managing an EPL team well we’re not an EPL team anymore so there is no better time. for some reason there is people that dont want Al to manage us no matter what

Rangerman – Not sure how you can praise Hughton and then condemn Shearer when both had equally poor records last season, albeit with a team out of its depth in that league.

Rangerman – you’re right Shearer has got a dreary personality. People say AS is charismatic, but I think a pet tortoise would be more dynamic than him.
Now KK to be fair did have drive and enthusiasm, not quite sure what Shearer has got apart from being a Geordie – big deal, so is Shepherd !!

    Batty –
being a geordie doesn’t put you beyond criticism.

Shearer has his faults, Carroll & Yaylor have their limitations. You can’t just say you can’t say anything bad about a geordie person.

Equally I love Beardo. There’s good and bad in every race of people on the planet.
