News today in the People suggests that if Matt Le Tissier had been successful in his bid to buy Southampton recently, Alan Shearer could well have become the manager of his former club.
Alan Shearer – will he get Newcastle chance this season?
Shearer is still said to be desperate to manage the club, but that will not happen as long as Mike Ashley is the owner on Tyneside.
Last night former Southampton star Matt Le Tissier said the Newcastle legend was ready to become Southampton boss.
Le Tissier headed a consortium bidding to buy the now League One side, and confirmed to the People today that Shearer was in line for the job .
Le Tissier said:
“We spoke to Alan, Kevin, Ian Dowie and Gordon Strachan and not all were keen. Gordon wanted to rest after leaving Celtic.”
“But Alan and Kevin were both keen and if we had succeeded in our bid who knows what would have happened?”
We thought that when Alan dramatically came in on April 1st this year, our fight against relegation would be won – easily.
We were wrong but everything Alan did at the club we liked – apart from the results, which of course were the most important thing.
Alan Shearer can still become a great manager on Tyneside, but if owner Ashley remains at the club, he may have to learn his trade at a lower level club first – like most other managers do.
And if the miracle happens that Chris Hughton remains in charge this season and gets Newcastle back to the Premier League, he will be both thanked, well compensated, and become part of the history at the club, and he’ll deserve it!
But we still think another manager could well be brought in by Newcastle next summer – to attract top players – and that may not be Shearer.
Wonder what Fabio Capello is doing after England win the World Cup next year? 😀
