Here’s the winning goal by Fabricio Coloccini – a cracking header – and look how he fights for the ball to get it back to Ryan Taylor from the initial corner. Also the final cross from Ryan is almost perfect.
Click on the the “WatchFootynet” – and then wait for the vido to start – it’s worth the little wait. 😀

Comment #5We looked like a true team out there today,
It was great to see us holding on to a lead by playing sensible, intelligent footy. We were awesome before the goal n it was clear we had the confidence to protect our lead, as our defence is top drawer at the moment. Bring on Blackpool!

Comment #10Yes Ed and how about a whole season unbeaten in the league? ha ha, wonder what odds we’d get!
If Carroll’s fit we might not need Butt as Nolan could drop back into mf, Guthrie, Barton and Nolan with maybe R Taylor or Jonas ( if fit) or LuaLua n Carroll n Ranger up front or even Loven….

Comment #13Coloccini was not very impressive today. He had a decent game but even at Championship level, now and then he shows lack of focus and lack of strength. I’m not one to jump player’s back for any reason but if this is the finished article for him then he aint good enough for the premier league.
MOTM was without doubt Ranger. He’s came in at the deep end but done a bloody good job, and even better than Carroll i’d say.
Just gotta say I know we’re at championship level but the referee wasn’t even fooking conference level. An absolute fooking joke, I hope he never referees us again.

Not sure i agree with that. Ranger was solid but his positioning was a bit off some of the time. fair enough he was probably tired, but i still think even with the sending off, Smith was head and shoulders above the rest of the team.
I hope Colo got MOM as it would do wonders for his confidence. I think he was very focused for the majority of the game and held his own in an impressive back four.

Comment #19Ranger deserves MOTM. His positiong is plainly down to the fact he ran for everything, went for every ball so tiredness can be excused, plus he’s only young!
Smith is a fantastic captain but in my mind there is no doubt Ranger was the most impressive today.

Comment #23To be honest, i’m not sure if Lovenkrands is ready for a start yet. Understandably, he looked well off the pace today and i think a couple more appearances from the bench is what he needs.
I would go with the exact same line-up against Blackpool, with Butt filling in for Smith.

Comment #27Mag lard – Nicky Butt is a toon player this season, if you like him or not. IMHO you should grow up and support the WHOLE team and get off his case. We need every player we have got left and we need them to know they have our full backing.
Your one of the Booooo boys aren’t you? Never satisfied, always finding something to have a go at. Here’s an idea, gan support the mackems, you might be happy there.

Agreed. However, it will speed up his development as it is, in effect, a baptism of fire for the young prospect. Once we pair him with someone he will have much more freedom and will be a better player because of it.
Mag_Laad
I have never hated Nicky Butt as much as you, mate. I just feel Nicky Butt is passed it and should never really play 90minutes as his legs can’t hack it. I have said many times in the past that he will be an awesome substitute when we have 40 minutes or so left to go and we need to tighten things up.

I support the team no matter what but a little bit inside of me dies when he’s on the pitch. FFS I have no problems with our team atm apart from the size of it and of course Nicky Butt. One player I have never liked since a certain semi-final against Man United…can you remember? Probably not as you are a goldfish, you can’t remember $hite. Don’t be a d1ck head to me and I won’t to you, I said nothing against anyone on this blog and you go and be a pathetic tw4t WELL DONE.

Comment #33Yeah whatever, I was actually at that match and saw with my own eyes thankyou very much. Doesn’t change the fact that he is still our player and will be needed this season. I actually agree with Dragonera’s last comments. He can be a good sub, and does have experience. Its just not worth being all bitter and twisted about one player.

Comment #34Lew. There’s one thing to support the whole team, but why should we stand by and happily accept a manager picking an awful player? I don’t have a problem with Butt, but I really do hope he is very much just a bit part player this season.

Comment #35Tbh lads I can’t believe more people are disgraced by how awful the referee was today. Smith got that first yellow card for nothing and it seemed for every foul we got Cardiff got about 5.

Spot on about the ref giving Smith his first yellow. That wasn’t a good call at all. But to be fair, he gave us a few dodgy decisions as well.

am ar$ed if you were at the match you may have seen it with your own eyes, well i did to on a tele 🙂 Sorry but look at our midfield Guthrie, Nolan, Barton, Smith, R Taylor, Jonas, Lualua, Vuckic, Donaldson he isn’t good enough to be ahead of any of them. He may have experience but we have more than enough of it where Butt plays he simply isn’t needed, neither is Geremi for that matter, http://www.nufcblog.com/2009/08/28/we-think-nicky-butt-may-be-on-his-way/ . He is a waste in wages when he is only going to halt the progress of youngsters coming through the squad.

Comment #40One thing I picked up on today was how badly we need some proper wingers. First priority IMO is a winger, then a stand in full back or striker/ centre back. To be fair we have Kadar but then again we need cover in all of those areas. Is Barton dropping off form as of late? Don’t think he’s lived up to potential since dropping down a league. In all honesty I wasn’t too impressed by any of our midfield apart from Smith and Nolan needs to get on some bloody running machines.
