Coloccinni Returns – Lovenkrands and Butt Both On Bench

nufc-crestCardiff City _FC_logo

CCC Manager of the month Chris Hughton recalls Argentine center-back Fabricio Coloccini to his back four for this afternoon’s televised clash at the Cardiff City Stadium.

That means Danny Simpson reverts back to his right back spot and Newcastle have their strongest defense out today.

Ryan Taylor moves up into midfield where he is joined by young Danny Guthrie, captain Alan Smith, Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan.

The only slight surprise is that club captain Nicky Butt will start this game on the bench, but there’s no way he should start in front of Alan Smith, given the Leeds-born player’s terrific form this season.

Nile Ranger, who scored for the England Under-19 side during the week, starts up front, as expected, for his 3rd start in a row.

29 year-old Danish International, Peter Lovenkrands, is also named among the Newcastle substitutes for the first time, after thankfully returning to the club on September 1.

This is a big game for the Magpies this afternoon, but if they are going to be promoted this season, it’s a game they have to win.

Howay The Lads!!

Taking Chopra and Ledley out their side makes them an average championship side. Presuming we keep these 2 boys quiet we should get a result.
    Il say 1-1.

Good for CH, a winning team and long may it continue.

Simo I agree, we have a mainly EPL team especially defence and mf with Harps in goal, we should outclass most we play this season but Cardiff will be a good test.

a glimpse of courage from Chris, but should have been on the bench, so one day he could make a manager if he continues to show he has the bottle to make decisions.

Excellent team selection. Smith stays as captain is great! Our 5 man midfield should be well enough to shut down Cardiff.

    go go Newcastle!

Aye repeat what I basically said in previous thread mate haha.

After me rant yesterday I think I won 🙂 Butt hasn’t started a little victory sense already 🙂 unless he comes on and gives away a free kick on edge of box sunderland style 🙁

This is exactly the team I would have put out! That’s such a rare occurence, often managers do inexplicable things, but well done to CH for putting out the right team (in my opinion).

Løvenkrands can come on in the second half, but midfield looks strong..

Smith, R.Taylor, Simpson, Nolan, Guthrie all in good form.

    Any links for the game?

good to see butt on the bench, dont think chopra has enough quality to cause our back 4 too many problems.. plus Stevie T will know him inside and out…

Cardiff look useless – all they can do is hoof long balls, usually out of play – but we must take advantage quickly, which we havent yet.
