Steven Taylor has today urged the Newcastle hierarchy to give Chris Hughton the United manager’s job permanently.
Steven Taylor – give Chris the job
Steven Taylor may have given up hope of Alan Shearer returning to St James’ Park, and now wants Hughton to stay as manager – on a permanent basis.
Steven said today:
“Would I be happy to see Chris Hughton get the job permanently? Yes, he’s done brilliantly,”
“He’s definitely strong enough to do it and he’s got the best out of the players here.”
“He deserves his Manager of the Month Award. We all respect him. A lot of the players would love him to get the job.”
That’s a bit of a change for Steven, who was the chief cheer leader to bring in Alan Shearer over the summer.
But Steven is just like the rest of us, he’s a Newcastle fan at heart, and he just wants success for the club, whoever can bring it – and that really speaks for all of us.
Not surprisingly, and very much like Glenn Roeder, who was in a similar position towards the end of the 2005-2006 season, when he was caretaker boss and winning almost every game, Chris himself would definitely take the job full time.
Chris said today:
“Would I like the job? Absolutely,”
“I’ve relished working with this group of players and would love that to continue.”
We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the next episode of the Mike Ashley at Newcastle soap opera.
But we may get some resolution on the Kevin Keegan affair tomorrow, and the outcome may even go in the club’s direction, but let’s hope whatever happens, we can get all 3 points at Cardiff City today.
After all that’s the most important thing this season – results on the field.
