Loan Striker On Way To Newcastle – But Which One?

There have been lots of reports in the press over the last two days that  link Newcastle with 3 potential striker loan signings.

Sam Vokes _633591551852656250

Sam Vokes – loan fee agreed with Middlesbrough and Newcastle

The only question is which one will be coming?

The first one we are said to have agreed a loan fee with is 18 year-old Sam Vokes of Wolves, with manager Mick McCarthy wanting to give his youngster some games before January.

Of course we were interested in Sam when he was at Bournemouth a year last January, and we have reported on this star youngster a few times over the last 18 months.

Crystal Palace let the cat out of the bag yesterday, when manager Neil Warnock said big-guns Middlesbrough and Newcastle United had already agreed to pay a loan fee for the Welsh international.

Neil told the South London Press:

“We enquired about Vokes but there is a substantial loan fee involved which I think Middlesbrough and Newcastle have both agreed to.”

“We think we really need an experienced striker, although Sam, who si a Wesh International, would have been a great buy for us.”

It will be interesting to see what happens if Sam arrives on Tyneside, because when Sam Allardyce was interested in him 18 months ago, Vokes made it clear he would walk to Newcastle to sign for the famous North-East club – boy we always like to hear that stuff!!

Another more experienced striker we have been linked with is Fulham’s Senegal striker Diomansy Kamara, and reports that Newcastle wanted to sign him a couple of weeks ago, but that Fulham coach Roy Hodgson blocked the move, and the Paris born player was none too pleased.

We reported on the 28 year-old experienced and skillful striker yesterday.

And of course there is Aston Villa’s Marlon Harewood, who has been injured and now hopes to prove his fitness today, to earn a loan move to Newcastle.

This news seems consistent with earlier stories, if they are to be believed, that Chris Hughton is simply waiting for Marlon to get fit again, and then he would sign him through January on loan.  Everything presumably has already been agreed with his club Aston Villa.

Marlon has had a badly bruised metatarsal in his foot that he picked up on the pre-season tour of Spain, and that reminds us that the player is kind of injury prone.

So of the three of them we think we need some experience with 18 year-old Nile Ranger and 20 year-old Andy Carroll quickly coming through the ranks. Why would we give Sam Vokes many games, when we should be blooding our own youngsters in Ranger and Carroll?

That would seem to rule out Sam Vokes, but if Newcastle do sign him on loan, we think it’s because they are interested in the player long term.

Of Marlon and Kamara, both of whom have plenty of experience,  we think we’d plump for Kamara, simply because of his wide International experience, and the class he seems to have.

We have some doubts about Harwewood to be truthful, because he’s hardly been a great success at any club he’s been at.

From what we can find out, Kamara is more than willing to come to Newcastle on loan, and is pressing his case with Roy Hodgson at Fulham for a move to the Tyneside club.

Who do you think would be the best striker for the club?

Or perhaps we’ll get two in?

I don’t isn’t African Nations next year? Presumably we’d lose the option then to extend the loan deal.
I’d take Harewood I think he’s strong enough and experienced enough to take this league by storm

Out of the group it would have to be Kamara. He’s the only on who can offer us something different to our current strikers.

Repeated comment although I thought Vokes was a done deal.

WE still have players like Kadar, Tozer and Lua Lua with first team experience and more than capable of playing in the first team. Not to mention a clutch of other reserves well able to slot into this league. So I don’t see that we need desperate signings although a few good ones similar to Simpson would’t go amiss.
I didn’t know we had signed Vokes but whether he is better or not than Carroll is irrelevent so long as he does the biz for us.
Either of them would be usefull signings for us.

I don’t understand why people are so down on Harewood. He is big and has a bit of pace. By all accounts he is champing at the bit to play.

On Villa sites the majority of their fans seem to really like his attitude. Look at Shola’s displays in this league compared to the Prem. I reckon Harewood would be great for us.

We really need a quick striker who can get in behind defences. Kamara has always looked like a link forward, even attacking midfielder. I think Vokes and Kamara would definitely strengthen the squad, but Vokes would already add to the 3 big lads up front.

Michael Mifsud is available on a free, and has always looked a class act. Whether Hughton has the right contacts with his agent to propose a deal is a different matter?!

I would take both Harewood and Kamara ahead of Vokes. What would be the point in taking Vokes on loan and developing him for Wolves? I doubt there is an option to buy so it all seems a bit pointless to be honest. Kamara and Harewood would both be a handful in this league.

Kash – I always liked Mifsud ever since I saw him play against us for Lillestrom a few years ago in the Inter Toto. Great Call but apparantley Notts County are sniffing around him

As suspected, we probably were not interested in bringing Cathcart in on loan unless there was an option to buy at the end. Something that i don’t think Man United will/would sanction. Hence the break down of negotiations towards the end of the transfer window. We should be loaning experienced defenders, not youngsters imo. We already have the highly rate Tamas Kadar.

Can’t see the point of getting Vokes on loan when he can’t get a game in a poor Wolves side – he offers nothing that Ranger or Carroll can’t give (presuming Carroll can stay fit for more than a few games) – wouldnt mind Kamara or Harewood

I’m with Dragonera on this one, why develop vokes for wolves?..
…If i had to choose between Harewood & Kamera, i’d probably go for Harewood as he’s younger, but either or both would be ok!..

Kamara or Harewood for me. Both strong pacy strikers, though, Kamara has a bit more skill, but what Harewood lacks in skill he make up for in hard work. Don’t think we should loan Vokes, as we have young strikers our selves(Ranger/Donaldson), who we should use instead of loaning a young player.

vokes is 1 of the better finishes around i think and if theres an option to buy would be a great deal and i think he does offer something different as he would be able to play up when carrol and ameobi are injured rather than relying on ranger who after a few poor displays from exhaustion may start to slip

even still he wont be good enough for prem if we get there i dont think which is a problem for us. do we waste money on players to get us up who wont cut it in prem or try to hold out so we can splash cash on quality as we prob wont have much next year anyways

    ——————————

1.hes not really the future is he, hes nearly 26 years old and still has not hit the big time, he is more the present than the future as he shud be at his peak now!!

and 2. how could we possibly get him on loan until the summer with an option to buy when he is out of contract in the summer and will be available on a free, so basically if leeds done that they would just be giving him away to us and they wouldnt recieve anything for him!!

Beckford has one of the biggest ego’s out there we have had enough knob heads allready that thought they were to good to be with us. as for vokes why give him experience to then send him back to wolves so that they reap the rewards and our own younguns are stuck to the bench thinking whats the point

Plymouth at home on saturday must be the perfect opportunity for Donaldson to get some game time. The lad has played for England at all age levels so can’t be without ability and has been patient in wating for his chance.
God knows I would get angry if I was as good as him and seen deadwood like Butt and Geremi getting on the pitch in fron of me.
