Newcastle Need Striker Reinforcements – Kamara Move Blocked

What’s fairly obvious in the first few gamoe f the season, is the defense is good, as is our midfield, but with Ameobi now out until at least December, we must get an experienced striker in, hopefully before Saturday.

Kamara – refused loan deal by Fulham

Newcastle have scored just 10 goals in 7 league games and that strike rate will not get the job done, it’s not good enough.

But after our first defeat tonight at Blackpool, it’s hardly good news to hear that Fulham boss Roy Hodgson has blocked Diomany Kamara’s move to Newcastle United – because he needs him for his squad.

Hodgson has told the Newcastle club that Kamara will be part of his group as they themselves go into a hectic schedule after reaching the Europa League.

That’s bad news for Newcastle since it looked like Kamara was by far the best striker we have been linked with.

But now it may be that the club will settle for Marlon Harewood, from Aston Villa, who is mediocre at best.

But surely we can add to our squad before Saturday’s game, because after all the club wants to be promoted at the first attempt – doesn’t it?

We just have to hope so, but with Mike Ashley still around, you just never know with this guy – and the sooner he leaves the better.

He’s like an albatross around the neck of the Tyneside club.

Disappointed as he would have been a welcome acquisition. However, i am sure we are in talks with several clubs about players. We willl have to remain patient. “patient”, a word that has become synonymous with Newcastle fans for around 18 months now. Who would have thought it, haha.

@Ashton: You’re an idiot if you think that releasing players is beneficial for us in any way at all.

I’ve a feeling that Hughton is going about this signing malarky all wrong. It’s like applying for a job – you put in for a load of them and get maybe six interviews (fitness tests) out of them. I can see him going for one striker, one winger and one full back before looking for the next.

Of course I’m exaggerating, but that’s what I feel from the reports and rumours.

Kamara is a good player! However if we get harewood , I will be sort of pleased because we need some experience up front.
I heard a rumour about cousin of hull two days ago. I hope it is true

I think releasing Butt would be very beneficial for the team we already have Nolan , Guthrie , Barton , Smith , Geremi , Lualua , Inman and Vuckic they are all better than him plus he is on 60 k per week !! which is crazy so releasing him would be very good but I can’t see it happening not this season any way

If we release Butt, we still have to pay his wages until the duration of his contract runs out. If he’s going to be on the books anyway, it makes more sense to have him in the squad. Even if he’s 5th or 6th choice. Atleast he’s got experience, if naught else…

Also, I can see us going with Harewood. Not one that’s got me jumping up & down with joy, tbh, but has proven that he can do the job at this level, so what can i say, welcome aboard…

For crying out loud…. why has this thread moved from Kamara being unavailable to getting rid of Butt. Yes, by alll means do so but do we really need to lose experience?

If he were to go, thus releaseing ÂŁ60k pw (crikey, that’s ÂŁ3 millions pounds a year!), then we must ensure that we have quality incomers and judging by last night’s performance, a good striker’s what we need.

Returning to Hodgson’s volte face over Kamera, could it not just be he’s looking for a commitment-based loan, with a commitment to buy after the loan period. Isn’t that why our supposedly inferior neigbours at Middlesborogh got St Ledger?

Let’s hope the club take a longer term view of playing resources and get away from the stop-gap bunker mentality that seems to be prevailing at the moment.

Yes the club’s up for sale but like your car if your selling it, do you stop putting fuel in when the tank’s low? I think not.

Convert Steven Taylor back to a centre forward and get a quality CB in on loan! Not that daft a suggestion really!

    To Ed….

    On your comment above;

…”But now it may be that the club will settle for Marlon Harewood, from Aston Villa, who is mediocre at best”…

A couple of weeks ago you posted numerous positive articles about the potential signing of Marlon Harewood! Where does this huge change of opinion stem from?

What i can tell you about Marlon Harewood is that the Villa fans believe he gives 100% everytime he steps out onto the pitch! He is quick and powefull; has scored bags of goals at championship level and a fair few for West ham in the PL!

Jason Euell ran our defense raggid last night along with Ormerod! If we get Harewood to play in alongside Carroll then we will be much better equipped to sustain a challenge than we are right now!

He may not be the “fan’s” #1 choice! But who else is there? Caleb Folan? Never scored proflically at any level!

To say he is mediocre at best is a terrible statement; in my opinion of course and completely contradicts what you were writing only a few days ago….

(P.s. I still think your doing a great job this year)

    *****On Releasing Butt*****

    What a ridiculous statement!!!!!

We couldn’t release him legally without paying up his contract in full!!!!

What would that achieve? One player less; same financial situation!
