It appears that Newcastle United stole a march on Sheffield United for Georgian and Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili late Wednesday night
Zurab Khizanishvili – switched to Newcastle at last moment
Apparently The Blades were set to sign Khizanishvili on loan on Wednesday evening, until Newcastle United stepped in and signed the Georgian defender on a three month deal, just before midnight..
Maybe that had something to do with Newcastle suffering their first defeat of the season that night at Blackpool, and looking awful in the process, or maybe it was The Blades were just not sharp enough in completing the deal quickly enough (ouch).
Blades boss Kevin Blackwell told sufc.co.uk;
“We had an agreement with Zurab Khizanishvili, his agent and Blackburn Rovers to bring him in on loan and then at midnight we heard that he had signed for Newcastle.”
We’re hardly surprised that Zurab signed for the Magpies once he knew the club was interested, because when fellow Georgian Tamuri Katsbaia was at Newcastle from1997-2000, Zurab said most of the nation became Newcastle fans.
Add to that the fact that Katsbaia and Zurab are now good friends, and it becomes less surprising he would plump for Tyneside.
But let’s also hope that Newcastle don’t have to keep losing games, before the upper management at the club (we use those words loosely), sanctions new loan signings, as the squad is still far too small for this season.
But Mike Ashley, who is completely clueless on how to run a football club (and keeps proving it), still owns Newcastle, and as long as that is true, he is the biggest impediment to promotion this season, there’s no doubt about that.
