The Sunday Sun is reporting today that Managing Director Derek Llambias could be ready to leave the club – even if Mike Ashley stays on as owner.
Apparently Llambias’s position is under review , with Ashley considering appointing an experienced football administrator to run the famous Tyneside club’s day-to-day affairs.
Well – it’s about time!
Llambias’ background is in casinos, and since he was appointed in May of last year, to take over from the rather impressive Chris Mort, he’s been hopeless and clueless in the job – and that’s being kind.
Troubles started as soon as he took the job, and have continued ever since.
Ashley is reported to be looking at whether a person in charge, who is experienced in the running of a football club would help both placate the angry Geordie fans, and at the same time be attractive to would-be buyers.
Wow – what a concept – but why has it taken Mike so long to realize something that was obviously needed when he took over?
This would put a more professional face on the Newcastle club, which is badly needed right now.
But reading the tea leaves, does this also mean Ashley is looking to hold onto the club longer term – like through the end of the season?
This is a move that might suggest just that, and it will be interesting to see who he appoints.
There were rumors recently that Barry Moat could be appointed, but he has no experience of running a football club, although his appointment at some level, would help with the integration and harmony in the club, should he become the buyer of the club eventually.
We hope this news is true, and let’s know who you think would be a good candidates for this position, assuming Derek is replaced!
