Let’s See A Carroll-Ranger Strike Force At Peterborough

Tomorrow night’s Carling Cup tie at Peterborough is a good time to give another run-out to some of our up and coming youngsters.

1

Nile Ranger – better with every game

It’s important to give some of the regulars a rest so they can be ready for the next important league game, on Saturday at Ipswich Town – KO 5:30pm.

Tim Krul should get another start, and we’d also like to see Tamas Kadar get a run out, and we fully expect new loan signing Zurab Khizanishvili, from Blackburn, to be given his debut for the club.

But the combination most Newcastle fans would love to see is a Carroll Ranger strike force up front.

These two were together over the last 30 minutes on Saturday, and since both are tall, good in the air, and very physical, they will be a handful for most defenses this season.

Carroll looks in good form and has scored two good goals in the last two games, and almost got a great  goal right at the end against Plymouth, when he turned beautifully, and smashed the ball against the cross-bar.

And Nile ha s  played in all but one of Newcastle’s games this season, starting 3 and coming on as a sub in another 5 games. So surely that youthful strike partnership is worth a try tomorrow night.

We’d also like to see 17 year-old Slovenian midfielder Haris Vuckic get his first start for the side.

Even with a weakened side tomorrow night, Newcastle will still hope to progress into the next round, and maybe get a plum tie with a top Premier league side at home.

Chelsea or Manchester United would be good, you know – a team we could beat on the night. 😀

Comments welcome.

Note – As our readers point out – Zurab Khizanishvili is already cup-tied with Blackburn and cannot play.

    I have written on another post that;
    Carroll(9) – Ranger(10)
    rings a bell with
    Shearer(9) – Ferdinand(10)
Geordie and Cockney leading the line. We made these on our we didnt break world signings for them.

I know am here alone but what MA did to concentrate on youth was good esp. the Geordies we bear the best players ever in England Gazza, Beardsley, Sir Bobby Chalton, Byran Robson, Allan Shearer,Steve Bruce, Chris Waddle, Carrick. The rest will follow.

I’d be happy to have the lightest competition for as long as possible so we can give these kids a good run of games… Not so long ago we would have thought beating blackpool would be a non issue.

I think play a mixture of old and new. My team for Carling cup

    ……………………Krul
    R.Taylor….Zurab…Kadar….Tozer
    ……………………Butt
    Lua Lua……..Vukic……Geremi
    ……………Carroll….Ranger

Bench McLovin, Guthrie, Smith, Donaldson, Barton

McLovin could replace and one of the top 4 and Geremi can also push out the right wing if Lua Lua is no good or the lads up front get tired. I don’t mind geremi in the middle as he can create occasionally and he has Butt behind him. Really though this is a chance to test out some old players and hope they impress so we can get rid of them for some cash at xmas…ie butt and geremi. Barton needs games to get his speed up and Lua Lua needs a chance to play especially as we have no real wingers except Jonas. Why not give Vukic a go too.

I am pretty sure Zurab Khizanishvili is cup tied, as this blog itself admits he played in the cup for Blackburn this season.

How can he play for Newcastle too?

Let’s not see a Carroll – Ranger duo at Peterborough! We already lost two in-form players to injury against Huddersfield and I’m sure we all agree that the league is what matters.

Newcastle has a tendency of letting good players Go. I think among all the big clubs of England we have had the worst Management.

I’d have to say Leeds was probably worse than ours mate. They were a big club once, where are they now? Oh yeah, totally smashed (though we’re not far behind).

I’d like to see Ranger and Carroll rested, on the bench at most. I’d give Baheng a run out and try to get Lovenkrands’ match fitness and sharpness up as he looked off it by all accounts Saturday.

I’d also play Barton in the middle to see if his game picks up when he’s in his favoured position.

Sod the league cup. Due to Ashley’s refusal to invest in United we do not have the squad to support cup runs and risk injuries.

Put out the weakest team we can and get out of this competition asap.

I would have to say that we SHOULD BE RESTING ALL OF OUR FIRST TEAM FOR THIS GAME and let the fringe/reserve players have a run out! We cannot afford to lose andy carrol like shola or jonas!

I’d probably start barton as he desperately needs to find some sort of form!

for me this game does not matter a jot; promotion should be our only goal and if we are losing by a goal or two with 10mins or so to play then so be it!

    I’d play the following team;

    Krul

    Geremi Kadar Lough Tozer

    Lua Lua Butt Barton Lovenkrands

    Vuckic Donaldson

I would absolutely agree with Kevin Nichols’s statement, and starting line up. We cannot afford to have a fixture pile up this season. Rest anybody who is a regular in the line up. Use this competition to blood a few youngsters from the start. If we win, so be it, if we lose, no harm done.

Don’t be saying things like that. Debating Ashley (The single most important issue facing the club) is frowned upon by some on here.

A couple of observations from Saturday (sorry aint been on line since then):

Harper had a cob on – did anyone see him blast the defence infront of the gallowgate and bounce the ball on the ground in temper.

Smith was having a right go at colo and taylor at one point.

Jose and Lovenkrandz having a spat on the left wing before and after half time.

A few of us commented on that.

Ranger to a degree reminds me of MO is as much as he runs around like hell but has more physical prowess. I would love for him to get his first league goal at SJP!!

Carroll wins nearly all headers and his shot on Sat was lovely.

Im off to the ressies tonight at Whitley Park. Anyone else going?

with zurab out i’d probably go for a young team with a bit of experience in there, il keep barton in the team and tell him to prove his worth if he wants to keep his place for the weekend. i’d give Carroll a rest so not to aggrevate the injury again and would love to see vuckic get a start:

    rTaylor Kadar sTaylor Enrique
    —————Butt——————
    —–Barton Vuckic Guthrie—–
    ——Lovenkrands Ranger——

if we are winning i’d also like to see donaldson, tozer and lua lua get good half an hour.

Follow Arsenal’s method and play the kids.
Get the kids in including Caroll and Ranger and play Butt and Barton central midfield, put the experienced boys on the bench.
We must blood the kids in this competition to help them bridge the gap between reserve level and the championship.
