Chris Hughton will not say it, but he would have been disappointed at the displays of a lot of our youngsters on Tuesday night as Newcastle went out of the Carling Cup with a whimper.
Chris Hughton – will stick with Newcastle youngsters
Chris was trying to rally the troops yesterday at the Benton Training grounds, and is determined not to give up on the young players at the club – despite their poor showing on Tuesday night.
“No one really excelled, to be honest, but we’re definitely not going to be giving up on them,”
“They’ve got a part to play like the rest of the squad.”
And the surprising news yesterday that Sol Campbell has quit Notts County after just one game, at least alerted Newcastle fans.
But since we tried to sign Sol in the summer, the club has moved on and Chris doesn’t seem too interested in signing the player, who apparently cannot sign for any club until Christmas at the earliest in any case.
Chris said today:
“Obviously, I know Sol and in our quest to bring in a center-half he was one that we did talk to and I was interested in,” he said.
“But things have moved on since then and our targets have changed. I understand that Sol can’t sign for anyone until Christmas anyway, so it is not something we’ll be looking at.”
It will be interesting to see what the club will do in January, when our loan signings are due to return to their clubs.
